When accelerating hard the revs continue to climb but the speed doesnt, lasts for a few seconds then speed catches up as normal, normally happens in 2nd 3rd and 4th, especially as the car gets hotter, but even so this doesnt happen all the time, it goes through phases, also it can smell very burny and hot and times around the engine bay, like burning oil but theres no blue smoke, its a piercing smell on your nose, although there is oil leaking from the sump seal, possible oil is dripping onto exhaust causing the smell? Any advice would be great, Thanks :)

    x2 on slipping clutch

An easy way to test if it is the clutch is:

Accellerate in 2nd gear to high enough revs, then change to 4th and put the boot down, if the revs rise quickly in 4th, you have a slipping clutch.

Should it not be slipping all the time though if it is the clutch?

Did you give it much gas when you did this? I'll only slip when the load exceeds what it can take.

Give it a bootful and it'll slip.;) Seriously though, if your clutch is slipping then you really want to get it sorted straight away - it'll leave you stranded sooner rather than later.

Did this earlier, went to 4500 revs in second put it into 4th and it was fine, no slipping at all
