    Hi.

Not sure if this belongs here, just wondering what peoples opinion of bringing in a heating system from abroad and specifically if they have any links they could recommend. While in Poland I ventured into an OBI store which is owned by B&Q, same colours etc. Was very suprised to see a 100m of ALUPEX 16mm pipe for twenty five euro. Priced up here the same pipe at between four and fives times the price from trade suppliers. I will be looking to purchase an entire heating system in the next few months and am seriously considering taking a flight to Poland and filling a van as the price differance is massive.

Anyone any idea as to why the huge price differance and any recommendations for sourcing from abroad. Thanks

are you going to bring a polish plumber back in the van to fit it aswell.to keep costs down.

buy in ireland & employ in ireland from irish owned companies and lets get this country back on its feet.

wages and tax is lower in poland.

16mm pipe? your going to give yourself massive headaches if you need any jobs done down the line as irish 14.7mm or 15mm fittings which are readily available here will be now good to you, the simplest of jobs afterwards could be a pain, also i would have to question would the pipe connect to a standard 1/2 tap here etc.

No plans for the polish plumber in the van, plenty of Irish ones here, in fact even one who designed and will be installing the system for me but maybe I should just get one Polish plumber as a backup, should be able to find him in the radiator isle hopefully. As a note I will be purchasing the boiler, pump and tank here as there is price parity on those for some strange reason.

I have no problems buying Irish but there are many people for whom a 500% increase in cost is also a very Irish thing, and remember that is the Kingfisher (OBI/B&Q) price not a trades suppliers over there price. I am excluding the massive differance in other items such as manifolds, the housing for one and I mean a full metal enclosure with clear door and manifold mounts etc, which if I remember was about 20 euro.

I know with respect to the taps etc but it's possible to purchase the tails for taps in Poland as well, even a convertor to use ALUPEX to 1/2"or 3/4" fittings/pipe and will be ensuring I have several spares of each type of tail, convertor and several fitting spares as well. Also as it's a combi boiler I can tap the existing hot water feeds, the 16mm alupex was for the central heating side as it's a conversion from a storage heater system to Gas etc.

The price is good. Next time link the web pages(smiley).

Obi.pl offers them for 1.49 Szloty per meter in 100m coils, see cataloque page 116.
The manufacturer/trader ( http://www.usmetrix.com/en/usmpex_rury.php ) should be able to provide you with the necessary data concerning pressure/temperature stability, food safety, diffusion rates etc...

But maybe obi has the data sheets in English as well. Here the Polish link to the manufacturer/trader:

I'd just like to point out that non irish owned companies also employ irish people and contribute to the economy through employment, taxes, PRSi, rates, export, using irish companies for services (It, cleaning, catering etc)

It is not just irish owned companies that support ireland
