Where are their kids playgrounds/parks in Monaghan. Or parks/estates for a good walk around.

If travelling up to Monaghan from Dublin with kids, wheres good to stop for a pitstop with the kids, again perhaps with a play ground.

There's a kids playground at Killygoan, just before the spar shop, out the cootehill road. Son't know if you're familiar with Monaghan, if not I can give better directions. There's also Rossmore Park with is out the Newbliss Road, there's loads of walks there and plenty of lakes etc. There's also an indoor playcentre beside KFC.

On the way from Dublin to Monaghan, there aren't too many options because it's mainly motorway. however, there is a play area at the service stations

I second what the poster above says...

If you wanted a play area on the Motorway instead there is one of the New Motorway Service Stations at Castlebellingham, so instead of coming off the motorway at Ardee onto the N2 continue North on the M1. You can use the service station, then after it turn off the N53 Signposted for Castleblaney. Its about 20km (very approx) to Castleblaney, although the road aint amazing, then your back on the N2. It shouldnt add more than 5 minutes driving time to your trip.

Depending on where your going, the playground and Rossmore Park are both the opposite side of town to the road to Derry, so youd need to allow an extra 20minutes or so of driving time (depending on time of day) in addition to time spent at the locations. Im not sure about Public Toilets at Rossmore park, but there is some at the petrol station to the North of Monaghan.
