I have recently picked up a TY Accounting group and I am at a loss as to what to cover with them. I am an Accounting teacher however I have not taught it in mainstream yet as I am an NQT and would love advice on what you think I could cover with this class so as it make it interesting and worthwhile.

    Thank you :)

    Hi Emma

We're doing the sage accounting package with our group. You may need to get the package installed in your computer room which obviously be a cost and something your school does not have the budget for.

How long do you have them for? If its less than 6/8 weeks as a taster for their LC options I would recommend teaching them a few chapters from the LC curriculum - after all, it is a taster and their LC choices should be as informed as possible.

Yes I went on a sage training course but we decided not to run with it this year. I have them for the full school year. I was thinking about moving forward with the LC Accounting however I was unsure how indepth I would go. I was just wondering if other schools had decided on other areas of accounting to focus on. Thanks for your help :)

How about doing something around financial awareness - making accounting personal and relating it to their world. Caught a discussion on Pat Kenny radio show re a new book out on the topic - think the authors do training programmes for TY explaining things like how shares work etc. The example they gave was about Abercrombie and Fitch - rather than spending $60 on a sweatshirt they opened up the discussion to buying shares in the company! It sounded good but have a listen and see what you think.

The book is called Cents and Sensibility and here is the podcast
