    Hey,
I'm looking to trade in my old Fiat and get a 2005/6 Nissan Almera Hatch. Any suggestions for dealers in the Dublin area? (or if this topic is covered in another thread?)

I think you're putting the cart before the horse. Search the likes of Carzone etc, and find a couple of cars you like. Then see what it will cost to change.

Depending on how old you Fiat is it may well be cheaper just to buy for cash. I think you would be better to find a car you like and then seek out people's experience of the dealer.

You should search Carzone for one in Dublin and it will give you a list if them from dealers, I wouldn't be too fussy about specifically going for a Nissan dealer.

Not too fussy about it being a Nissan Dealer at all - but since I am looking for a trade in I am more interested in dealers in general rather than private sellers.

I've already looked through Carzone and have an idea of what I am looking for. I guess I was just looking for advice from anyone who has done something similar and had a good experience, and then I'd see if that place had anything going for it. Might be putting the cart before the horse alright.

You don't say how how old your own car is. While it's great to walk into a dealer, hand over your old car and drive away in a new one, dealers do charge for this.

I know I'm stating the obvious here but if your old car was worth, for arguements sake €1000, you could probably buy the new car for near enough the same money and keep the old car to sell on but I appreciate not everyone wants the hassle. Otherwise nobody would trade in a car.

sorry - yeah my car is 02 Punto (€2000 give or take). But it is mainly a hassle thing. I may go to a dealer and see what sort of price I'd get it for without mentioning the trade in first just to see what sort of price available.

But my original idea was finding a single place where there was a few 2nd hand 2004/5/6 Almera's so I could go and check out what the options are and see a few of the ones that are available up close. Then I would have a more solid base for looking at other places.

Not complaining, mind you - I am getting more good advice than I even went looking for! Thanks

The important figure when trading a car in against a newer one is the money the garage want with your old car for the newer one. What they give you for your old car is not as important. So garage A could offer you €3k for your old car and garage B only €2k but garage B may want less cash from you towards the new car than garage A did. Giving over inflated trade-in prices is common practice as it makes it appears to favour the customer, reality is the garage will over inflate the price of the newer car to counter act this. Swings and roundabouts.
