Courts are on Holidays

    I would appreciate your opinion....

    I rang the court services yesterday - they said the courts are on holidays. I am going to be meeting a solicitor next week to try to stop something from happening to me before the 20th September.

    is there any point though, if the court is on holidays ?
    What happens in emergency situations?

    Is it normal for courts to go on holidays, would judges not normally rotate their holidays or has it happened only this year because of the recession.

    No, it's normal for the courts to be on holidays each summer, the judges don't hear cases but their still working. If it is time sensitive, there are judges on call, your solicitor will be able to talk you through it.

    i think most courts resumed this week after the holidays, i know the district court near me was sitting thursday, i think it's just the month of august is when there are no sittings.

    Court Holidays

    District Courts

    Normal sittings do not take place in August. There is a sitting one day a week in each District Court area. A judge will be available for any other urgent matters.

    Circuit Court

    Normal sittings do not take place in August and September.

    A judge will be available for any urgent applications, if County Registrar is satisfied that the matter is urgent and could not wait until October

    High Court and Supreme Court

    Normal sittings do not take place Aug and Sept. Vacation sittings fortnightly to deal with matters arising that cannot wait until October.

    Judge available on short notice for more urgent matters.

    Many barristers are on holidays during much of those months.

    Solicitors offices tend to work on during those months,

    The "Long Vacation" in summer goes back to the time when judges and barristers went back to their estates to save ther harvest.

    Increasing pressure now to have September a normal working month.
