Odd Sensory Experiences

I had to get a vaccine today that was inter-muscular, and have noticed a decided metallic "taste" in my mouth all day as a side effect. I've had this before with other vaccines, also directly injected into the muscle, and I've had other people comment on the same thing. I've also heard other people describe that they can "taste" other weird things like the noise of chalk on a blackboard, or the feel of charcoal on paper, or wet wool. Would anyone know why, when none of these things are actually directly related to anything oral, do we experience a sensation as if they are?
    Thanks.
