Why do you think Jim Carey was never nominated for an oscar so far? , he won a golden globe for both the "truman show " and the " man on the moon"? These awards winners are usually the precluders to the Oscar winner. Was it because he was regarded as "comedian", not an "actor" by the establishment?

Most of the time best actor goes to an actor in a film that was made with oscar glory in mind and produced and directed accordingly , i dont think carey has stared in any film really aimed at an oscar win thus far .
I do like his work but truman show is best role imo so far.

There are some exceptions in this made for oscar type movie notably "training day" and "Gladiator" in the last decade but recently the whole production/writing/direction of a movie has to be aimed at oscar glory for the actor to stand a decent chance.

I understand that , but Carey was never even nominated for an Oscar in either year is strange... He was completely snubbed. He won all the major acting rewards for both those two years, He won the Golden Globe for both years, yet was never even nominated for an Oscar in either year...

Aside from Man On The Moon and The Truman Show, can you name anything that might be even slightly oscar worthy? Dont get me wrong, I love Jim Carrey, I've read his book and have seen all his films, hell, I even liked The Cable Guy, but hes not exactly an Oscar kind of actor.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, his performance in that was outstanding IMO. Not your typical oscar bait kind of movie though i suppose.

    You answered that yourself.

I think the actors history has a lot to do with it. Despite the 5 or so heavy dramas Carrey has done, he's still a stand-up comic turned comedy star whos in countless slapsticks. Its very easy for actors to get typecasted, especially in comedy.

Beat me to it,I think he is good enough to get an oscar but I dont think I seen him in anything so far that he deserves one.

I also liked the cable guy :p

It is surprising that every other movie award ceremony judged him on his acting ... but not the Oscars though...

He's a damn good actor when he has a script and director that can take advantage of his abilities.

This is pretty obvious. Why there's a perceived need to have it recognised by an Academy of elderly and conservative individuals is beyond me.

I was AMAZED when he didn't get an Oscar nod for Eternal Sunshine...
He is also excellent in The Truman Show, The Majestic and Man on the Moon.
    Seriously underrated 'straight up' actor.

Really hope Jim gets an Oscar some day, not least to hear his acceptance speech.

    Love these.

Oddly restrained (and emotional in parts) here at the Globes.
