Those are very interesting. Do you know what they would have been used for (particularly the banner sized ones) ?

The Reischkrieg or "Battleflags" , all navy marked used in ships of various sizes , these sizes go up as far as that designated for use on a heavy cruiser , beyond this size and they are difficult to obtain.

    2, 40x65cm, ships up to 500 tons
    3, 50x85cm, same as #2
    5, 80x135cm, 500-1500 tons
    6, 100x170cm, 1500-10K tons
    7, 150x250cm, 10K tons plus (transport=11Kt, BC=15Kt)
8, 200x335cm, but not listed in KMFbuch. (Btlships=50Kt)
Example larger than jack size 8 also posted on WAF.
    ..........(RKF size#, size, use)..........
    12, 450x750cm, over 10K, Battleship (Bismarck 50Kt)
    11, 400x670cm, over 10K tons, B-Cruiser (Prinz Eugen 14Kt)
    10, 300x500cm, 1500 to 10K tons, Cruiser (Leipzig 8.4K tons)
    8, 200x335cm, 1500 to 10K tons, Destroyer 3Kt & Cruiser 8Kt
    7, 150x250cm, 500 to 1500 tons, (note U-Boat pole too short)
    6, 100x170cm, 500 to 1500 tons, DE-Torpedo Boat 900 tons
    5, 80x135cm, up to 500 tons, U-Boats and E-Boats, tugs
    3, 50x85cm, up to 500 tons, U-Boats 900t, E-Boats 120t

The above info from Bill (Weed) "OFW" who posts on Wehrmacht Awards Forum.
Occasionally you find the flags marked with both cm sizes and a single figure.
    (see above table) - I am up to "11"- 400cm x670cm.

The large elongated banners , the are constructed to accept a wooden bar so they can be hung , the largest is approx. 30 ft long - something which might be hung at a meeting or a rally.

The State Service Flags , those with the Swastika in an "art deco type style" - on public or government buildings , you do find some marked up for naval use and occasionally they were flown from ships at anchor.

I have a few others which I will add later as most photos are "trapped in the HD of mu last PC".

Thanks for that. I have read OFW's posts on WAF before but had not noticed that one. Cheers.

Another one or two a 300x500 bow flag , the kgm stamp on it is genuine and rarely seen.

A female RAD flag , got this for a song slight tear on the white rope covering but otherwise perfect.

    NSBO flag a labour organisation.

Morlar , thanks for posting up the photos, have not seen these before - the flag with the ears of corn on it not one I know at all. (Cheers sir). :)

As far as I am aware the NSBO fell into decline and was absorbed into "DAF" ( German labour Front").

They were indeed, the NSBO were forcibly merged into the D.A.F, along with other labour organisations. They (not the NSBO but the other labour organisations) were seen as potential breeding grounds for communists and so were brought under the NS State umbrella.

Interestingly the NSBO once striked with communists, despite being N.S. in nature.

Aye , they were apparently quite "socialist" in nature. :)

The photo album covers , nice , something I have not seen before RJ Benders "Labour Organisations of The Third Reich" does good coverage of the NSBO and DAF , they have a good photo of that RAD flag being raised but its reproduction is quite small.

From "Labor Organizations of The Third Reich" ( J R Angolia and D Littlejohn ( RJ Bender Publishing).

A flag of the same type and size being raised.

That is a beautiful collection. One of my next purchases will be a tank id flag, I think flags are one of the most iconic symbols of the third reich and I know in time I will own several of them, my wife just isint very keen on the idea.

A Kgm marked flag sized for a heavy cruiser, a bit dirty and stained and a size not popular with collectors.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,549 ✭✭✭BlackEdelweiss

I have an equally stained and dirty one with a few field repairs. I didn't know the size was not popular, I love it, the scale is amazing. The only bad thing is that you can't just take it out to have a quick look at, it requires a good deal of furniture rearranging. I still haven't got my vehicle I'd flag, just waiting for somebody to offer me a nice high paying job to get the funds rolling again!

    Know the feeling !!!
The yanks apparently don't go for the larger flags as they cannot be displayed, I think someone asking $600-700 for a small flag is only slightly saner than the man who pays that for it.

I would love to get loads of flags but then again what could you do with them all unless you had a huge warehouse draped with various nazi flags. I love huge building banners and have been developing a strong interest in the HJ recently, something about their flags is really catching my eye.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭Jim S

I have half a dozen or so large ones but have resisted buying more for the reasons you hve mentioned, although a huge party banner would be welcomed. :).

I love tha HJ flag you have but Donegal weather doesn't let you lay things out in the garden much. I would love to be able to gather up the money to buy an mg 34 or 42 but I always end up buying smaller things whenever I get a few euros.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭Jim S

There is a similar HJ flag on WA at present but I have a few bills to square away and besides I would find it hard to justify buying another. (Having broken my binocular embargo three times in as many months).

An MG34 or 42 is a nice piece of kit ( I have a friend in NI who has one of each and most of the accompanying "extras", apart from the optical sight and stand. All the extras can be an expensive undertaking.

I have to pay for kitting out a room for books , binoculars etc so my buying will be very light for quite a while. :)

PS What are the stars which appear below one's name on the left hand side of the screen ?
