Brake caliper problem

Just wondering has anyone else come across a problem with a felt f95 where the gap between the brake caliper and the tyre when at high pressure is slim if not none and stopping the wheel from rotating. I had the problem with my old wheelset and after putting a set of Aksiums on I can't put more than 85psi into my back tyre or else it won't turn. I have attached some pictures to show the problem. Any ideas?

tight clearances, you probably need slimmer tyres or the wheel is buckled

if your tyre is rubbing all the way round then the "roundness" of your wheel is ok- what size tyres are you using 700x23c? perhaps you could try a 700x22c(not that easy to get id presume)-if all else fails a different brand of caliper may slightly improve the clearance

It looks all wrong. Any chance you have a small frame that should have 650mm wheels?
Otherwise can you say the size of the frame and make and size of tyre?
Was it the same tyre that was rubbing with the original wheels?
Is it the same on the front?

The frame is a 58 and it was tight on the old r500rims with a 23mm tire. The front has loads of clearance. Also the aksiums are brand new and are not buckled.

Unusual then because here is a pic of the same bike with plenty of clearance.

It may be a welding error. Try a different tyre.

That's a weird one alright! We have an F95 in the family and it's even running with Aksium wheels on at the moment and there are no clearance problems. Having said that, I just checked it and there isn't much clearance - no more than 5mm under the caliper and less down at the seat tube near the front mech.
If you've had it since new, I'd go straight back to the shop you got it from and get their opinion of the problem, otherwise go to any Felt dealer (Wheelworx, Eurocycles in Dublin) who should make it their duty to help.
Good luck and it would be interesting to hear the outcome!

It took a while but it got sorted. Brought it back to the shop I bought it in and after showing it to the manager he said I was given a faulty frame and he got felt to replace the frame. They gave me an upgraded frame aswell which is now lighter and has a full carbon fork and carbon steerer so I'm delighted now to get all the training in for next years racing season!!!

What shop sorted you out with a new upgraded frame for free???

It wasn't the shop that just gave a new frame. They had to send the faulty one back to Felt who then under the warranty sent over a new frame. If it was that simple it would not have taken two months. The shop by the way was eurocycles In airside. They were very helpful and I could not fault them at all.

Is the felt a decent bike... I have one ordered and am hoping to start cycling competitively soon

The Felt I have now is a great bike. Raced on it in the DWCC Xmas race and was very pleased with the handling and stiffness of the frame. My advice when you get yours is to upgrade the wheels ASAP as they buckle very easily.
