Job Seekers Allowance - Been waiting since April on my claim..

As the title says, I've been waiting on my Job Seekers Allowance claim since mid April, just wondering if this type of wait is normal?
I've been told by some friends just to give it time and let the claim come when it does, but not having a job has basically left me pennyless for the whole summer. At this stage I really feel like they're taking the pi**.
I've also emailed my local office numerous times, not once have I gotten a reply.
I've also been asked for the same documents numerous times and for the past 2 months or so I haven't heard anything back.

I'd love to hear from others who are still waiting on their claim or any advice from people to help me to hurry this process on a little bit.

While you are waiting you should have gone to your local community welfare officer he/she should be able to give you a weekly payment until your JA comes through !! it does seem lik a little 2 long to be waiting !! i was waiting 8 weeks whicj to me seemed lik forever !!

Yeah I only had one form of ID(CWO said he needed two forms of photographic ID) so I sent off for a passport last month and got it yesterday, I'll be going to my CWO Monday morning.
Either way it's coming up on about 20 weeks waiting now, seems a little too long?

And any money received from the community welfare officer will be deducted from any back payment. Plus if you are living at home your parents income will be assessed for jobseekers allowance.

Havent been on the dole in a while so it has probably changed a bit. I found the more aggressive you are with them the further you will get. They really wont reply to email even getting through to the call centre is a pain. The next time you are in town or near youre centre call in to the reception with your pps number and state your case to them they cant ignore you then. Keep this up at least once a week as each time they enter your pps they can add detail to your claim that youve called a few times and are in need. Never heard of anybody being near 5 months in the wait though so Id call down asap.

SW offices take a persons claim. If it is jobseekers allowance sometimes it has to be passed onto a social welfare inspector, swi then asks person for certain documentation and then makes an appt with the person and then sends on their report to sw office. This can take months as there are a lot of people applying for jobseekers allowance and people coming off benefit also have to be means tested. As well as dealing with jobseekers allowance the social welfare inspector also had to deal with other claim categories e.g. disability, one parent family so they do have a fairly hefty work load. Best thing OP can do is apply to the community welfare officer for supplementary welfare allowance.
