    Hi all

not sure if this is the place to past this but here goes anyway..my girlfriend has a pendant made of white gold with two small diamonds in it- she would like to turn this into a ring (ie have it melted down and recast into a ring). Are there any jewelers in Ireland that do this kind of thing and any idea of how much it would cost?

    Thanks in advance,
    Colm

hi colm, you may have some luck with crystal jewellers in the blanchardstown shopping centre ( they are downstairs beside debenhams). he does make jewellery to order, but I dont know if he would recast an item. he is a 'proper' jeweller so if he cant do it he'll probably be able to tell you who can.

They have been in the business for years and have done lots of re-modelling/repairing for me. Best of luck

Hi, I've had a few pieces of jewellery made like this lately. Went the opposite way to your girlfriend and had two rings made into a pendant. On the Crafts Council of Ireland website www.ccoi.ie there's a register of craftspeople from all over the country and you can select jewellers working with precious metals. A lot seem to accept commissions. There are pics on there too so she can find someone whose pieces she likes. As your girlfriend is giving the jeweller the materials what she will be paying for is the jeweller's time. So cost depends on how complex the design is and how long it takes the jeweller to make it - and probably some of them charge more for their time than others!

Good luck with it. It's a really nice way for your girlfriend to get a piece of jewellery she loves.

It can definitely be done. There is plenty of goldsmiths in Ireland who can do it for you. The goldsmiths registered with CCOI are generally your best bet. The ultimate choice depends on the design style that you prefer. My friend has melted her bits and bobs of trinkets and had her new ring made by Carl Parker in Co Kilkenny. She said he was great to work with and she was very happy with the end result.
