Yes, they're legal. It's illegal to sell a car without telling the new owner about the altered mileage. Actually altering the mileage is legal as there are a few good reasons for doing it.

Unfortunately the position is that they are legal, AFAIK. You can set the odometer to whatever you like on your car. The illegal bit is if you misrepresent your car when you are selling it, eg claiming there is 40k on the car when actually there is 80k. However, if you sold the car with 40k on the clock, but told the buyer clearly that there was really 80k on it, then there wouldn't be a problem because you correctly described the car and didn't mislead the customer.

Whatever about being legal or not, it's certainly not good practice and has a whiff off it.

Morally, you should remove the ad

Nothing wrong with the product but it's a bit much having this in the ad:
Equipment used to adjust odometer reading for sale

Great way to make money €50 can be charged per car.

The seller states "Only reson [sic] Im [sic] selling is to have a bit of money ASAP for holidays"

If it is only going to make the price of five jobs, it's hardly too popular in his neck of the woods, eh?

    Technical legal.

But there is good chance it will be used for fraud , so I wouldn't be allowing it on adverts.
