Fidelma Healy-Heames is a Luddite

This is a few weeks old now, but since I've gotten no reply from Fidelma, I thought I'd share it here.

    Here's Fidelma saying stupid things.

And here's the email I sent her:
    A chara,

You're not my mom. Kindly stop telling me how long I may play video games for.

On a more serious note, your statement smacks of irrational knee-jerking. The gentleman who died was neither a child, nor in good health generally. His lifestyle was obviously sedentary to begin with and had he not been playing games, he might have been using the internet, or watching movies, or reading a book, or any of the myriad motionless leisure activities which we have the choice to indulge in.

Recently, the Minister for Health has declined the screening for Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in donated blood. Had it been implemented, it is estimated that it would have saved two lives over a ten year period, but at a cost of €11m per year. This is a reasonable assessment of risk, regarding cost vs benefit. Thus far, video games have resulted in zero deaths over a 30 year or so period in Ireland, yet you presume that this is an issue which should be attacked with immediate action.

In addition, your particular phrasing, "some class of a microchip" suggests to me a general antipathy towards technology and I suspect your opinion is based on a general dislike of console gaming as opposed to an analysis of objective risk.

If you're looking for unnecessary and invasive mandates to implement in future, might I suggest some of the following:

*Studies have shown that married people live longer and are healthier than their single counterparts. Perhaps you would consider implementing mandatory arranged marriages for chronically single Irish citizens.

*Heart attack risks are elevated in those who work desk jobs, regardless of whether or not they excercise regularly outside of work. There is speculation that this may be the result of no variation in heart rate throughout the day. I propose you replace office workers' desks with treadmills which change rate randomly during office hours.

*I cut myself on a page of a magazine the other day. Let's ensure that all magazine pages have a protective rubber rim, so that no one need suffer this scourge again.
    Is mise,

The senator should just try saying "No" more often to her kids.
Why do some always have to rely on others/makers to do their job for them!

Seriously? Have polititians nothing better to worry about?

Its every parents/girlfriends/wifes responsibility to ensure their children/boyfriend/husband have better things to do then spend 12 hours a day playing their consoles. Not a bloody polititians job!

Come'on lets be honest if you let your kid play on his xbox for longer then an hour a day thats lazy parenting and you dont have to bother yourself with keeping them entertained!

Unless she propeses the manufacturing of time limiting devices for consoles is to be based in Ireland thus creating job opportunities here she should shut the hell up and spend time finding ways getting this country out of the mess it is in!

No, somebody somewhere might be upset by the thought of it. This obviously doesn't apply to thoughts of Fidelmas Fantastic Tangoreffic tan though, because thats different.

She is just contradicting her self... Now heres an outdoorsy activity men of Galway can partake in instead of playing their consoles! And it sure is to get their heart rate up :D

The dogging time would have to be restricted to stop them overdoing it.

If you couldn't stomach reading it because the dialect didn't suit your tastes, it's your loss. The OP put his point across pretty well.

Senator Fidelma Healy Eames said the activity is inappropriate, particularly when teenagers on school holidays could be exposed to it.

Considering the activity is probably confined solely to teenagers I doubt somehow they'd be too shocked.

She's from the same area in Galway that I am. And it is no lie to say that she has curried no favours with her neighbours and the general populace of Oranmore with her outlandish bollocks. This is just one of many retarded and close minded things she has said.

She's a bit of an auld hoor anyway. A friend of mine babysat her children for well over 12 hours before and Fidelma only coughed up about 20 euro for my mate's trouble. And then wouldn't give my mate a lift home, so she had to spend the 20 quid she had just been given on a taxi.

Yeah thats a typo. If a mod could please change that to "eames"

No matter how much I think about it, the phrase "some class of a microchip" makes me so very sad. more so as I don't even know where to begin correcting her. Is she not supposed to be a science advisor for fg? Sigh

Her husband tried running in the local elections once and got nowhere. If that bloody woman reserched gaming a bit more she might see the potential it could have for jobs in this country, as far as I know gaming is doing better than the music industry at the minute. As for a microchip for turning of the console after two hours, well there is parental control. Most movies sporting events are well over two hours so should they come with a switch off limit. The sooner that seanate is done away the better for paying this woman tax payers money to think is doing nobody any good.
