Hop up problem on VFC SCAR

I'm having an unusual problem (to me) with the above gun - as I tune hop up I get to a point where, rather than sending the bbs skyward they drop to earth very suddenly at no more than 40 feet. I have been changing rubbers thinking this was the issue - I had a guarder clear in at first, then a G&G green and recently a shop has put in what seems to be a madbull blue (not sure though).

The gun was firing fine before - this problem occured after a worn piston head was replaced (although don't know how this would relate to problem above). Gun is firing at 0.9J.

I'd appreciate hearing any ideas/possible explanations.

    Cheers

Any other changes such as a tight bore barrel? Is your hopup working correctly at any stage through the adjustment?

No other changes- hop up is working - range is increasing although it seems to take more adjustment than I am used to. On other AEGs I guess I can flatten the trajectory of flight using only 1/3 of the range of adjustment (at most). With the SCAR I am definitely over half way (with 0.2s) and the range is still increasing until I hit that point where suddenly the range decreases.

Stand to be corrected , but is it a case if applying to much hop up and it is killing the fps of the bb

That's what I suspect myself but normally you would go through a phase where you were sending the bb skyward before there was two much hop applied - this is not happening in this case.
