    Hi mods,

Just wondering if we can create another sub-forum in Parenting for teenagers please?

For parents of teenagers or teenage parent's or teenagers?

There is a teen section on the site the Clearasil & Hormones forum.

sorry I meant for parents to discuss issues of their teenagers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,427 ✭✭✭Morag

The main parenting forum were this thread is would be the place for that, there doesn't need to be a separate section.
The new born and toddles sub section was set up cos there were just that many threads swamping the main forum as so many boardsies started having kids.

so many boardsies started having kids
So we'll just have to wait 10 years and then we'll have a 'Parents of teens' forum....:)

    Haha Kildrought :p

Issues with teenagers can be dealt with on the main parenting forum... there just isn't as many threads about them as the Newborns & Toddlers :)

Can we have a forum for parents of children with brown hair please?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,862 ✭✭✭✭January

No, we'll have a forum with less off topic and unhelpful posting, please.

(This is a mod warning btw)

Maybe not that long, could be that the main parenting forum could get swamped with parenting teen issues as the number of new people joining the site could have parents with kids of that age.

I have been thinking of suggesting this actually as well for a while; there have been a few threads looking for advice for teens specifically..but I guess in another way you would have to break the forum for each age bracket so it could be messy!

It would certainly make it easier to look for threads pertaining to the older kids :)

I'd imagine it would be easier on the parents of the younger kids not having to see threads about mitching school, drinking, porn, masturbation etc.........All those things that some teenagers get up to!!!:D

I also think this is a great idea and am in full support of such sub forum :)

I think though guys if we got into that territory, we'd need a sub forum for Pre-Schoolers and then one for Primary school going kids too and it just starts getting messy. No need for so many sub forums.

Just to say to anyone who is going through the torment of hell with a teenager!

It can work out all right in the end, my daughter who put me through hell as a young teen is now a lovely young woman ( even if I do say so my self )
She is now embarrassed at the way she behaved but cant explain why she did some of the things she did.

I think it's a great idea as well. I've aged so much in the last 48 hours after one of my teens had a horrible accident that required surgery.

Maybe a 'Teenage mega thread' ??

Megathreads take too long to root through looking for pertinent advice and information.

After the last 4 hours that I've put down since they all finished school today I would be in favour of a forum where parents of teens could go to get completely and utterly smashed and threats of harm to said teens would be taken in the spirit they were written. :(

If anyone finds my rag please wash it and return it to me c/o boards.

Yup first full week of school and mine came home like a scaled cat, stroppy and moody.

Forum Requests is the place to initiate this not here. Make sure to read the charter and procedure first.

I'll hang out my flag and say I won't be supporting it. There aren't enough threads about teenages to warrant it imo. I won't oppose it either though.

Cue maniacal laughter. Things have only got really bad for me on the teen front now that I have a nearly 17 year old, a lousy, rotten 14 year old (why did nobody think to tell me that turning 14 in a boy has the same result as a full moon for a werewolf?) and a pre-teen of 12. The summer has seen me tearing my hair out in a way not seen since they were tortuous, terrible toddlers. If I drank I'd be at the bottom of not just a bottle of wine by now, but a case of the bloody stuff.

I could fill a whole forum on my own with my woes. :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,807 ✭✭✭✭Orion

I'm sure you could. But people don't fill this forum with teenage queries. Maybe it's a case of 'if you build it they will come' but tbh I don't think so. Like I said - I won't object to the forum but I don't think it's necessary.

I think having threads about a topic generates threads about a topic, posters do post about teens here, there's no reason that you shouldn't post about parenting teens, up for anything.

Honestly I've never really bothered starting threads in the Parenting forum because the thread always seems to be more generalised towards younger kids issues eg suitable books for 7-9 year olds,

I know I can post there but the issues I brought up in my earlier post just seem so out of place in the general parenting forum that I haven't wanted to start threads about them!

I'm not one to cause a fuss on Boards but I genuinely thought a teenage subforum was a good idea:)

Also, is anonymous posting available in the parenting forum because there are issues regarding my teens that would be of a sensitive nature that I would not like people on Boards who know me in "real life" to be privvy to:confused:

Yes, anonymous posting is allowed in the parenting forum.

Feel free to start threads about your teenage issues.

It may be - start a thread on the Forum Requests forum and see where it goes. Don't be afraid to cause a fuss (it's not a fuss) - the worst that will happen is a 'no' from the bosses.

Post away anonymously. Even the mods can't identify you if you post anonymously on Parenting or one of the subforums.

This is exactly how I feel about it, which is why I have made a suggestion. If the request have not been put in, I am doing it now, wish me luck! :)

Right that's done now - let's see what happens
