Anyone know if its easy enough to clone/backup the hard drives on those 2060 in 1 arcade boards(just a mini PC really, and not even that mini)?

I got delivery of one today(I know its madness as I have a hyperspin pc nearly ready, but I do have my reasons).

The one I got comes with a 20GB hard disk and looks like its the old ide type.

So I'm just wondering if they have a weird file system or if I can just hook it up to my pc and clone it or back it up. Perhaps replace it with a CF or SD card with the correct adapters etc (its only 20Gb after all).

It's this on by the way, but I got it from arcademachines.ie :

Have a look over in the Guides section on http://www.xxxx-in-1.com if you haven't already.

I've attached an old PDF I found a while back which might help also?

    Cheers,
That looks like it will help me out anyway.

Just had a read of that PDF.
Seems very simple to do what I need as it's just running Windows 2000/XP with a standard file system.

So I'll clone the drive onto a cheap 32Gb CF card and stick that in a 10 Euro adapter and replace the stinky IDE drive with a home made SSD.

I'll also be dumping the crappy 120w power supply that came with it for a spare silent 450w one I have at home.
The 120w looks just nasty, like ones we had in the 90's.

    Interesting.
Since I have a Supergun I have toyed with replacing the MVS board with such a arcade board, or at least have it as a change.

I also wonder, can I reflash the 111 in 1 MVS cart I have?
Get rid of the clones and games I don't want and replace them with something less boring instead?

I just got the thing home and unboxed.
It's a piece of crap and wasn't even finished. Video should be coming over the jamma connection but they didn't put that part of the board on

You can connect the board directly to the monitor as you can with any pc if your monitor has a VGA port but that's not how it should be and the monitor really does not like it when you power it up at first, which is not good at all.

No sound on most games and the processor fan makes so much noise it really takes away from playing the games. The only thing that does work as it should is the arcade controller buttons.

I've sent an email to AJ to see how we go about a refund as this thing is not work €285 plus €15 shipping.

I'm kinda surprised that arcademachines would be selling crap like that.
Given the relatively tight clique out there of home cab owners rumours of poor quality products could really kill business.

Might look elsewhere or just build my own.

The little thumb drive linux PC they are building seems pretty cool, I wonder if a very simple Linux mame could run on it?

I imagine a decent sized, vertically orientated monitor, mounted on a wall, with one of those velcro'd to the back, running a bunch of classic arcade titles, DK, Galaga etc, and a pair of 6 button sticks doing the honours.

Yeah, I really wanted it for this weekend as well :(

Anyway, I don't think he can argue about a refund with me on this, I hope.

I've never heard a good review of the larger(pc based) multi jamma boards.
I've about 6 different sample multigame boards on the way over to me which I intend to upload a video of each so people can see the performance before they buy

I've had the 1940 in 1 edition board for a year now and never had an issue.
I have heard of high failure rates, but it is usually the HDD which is bound to happen as it will to any PC at some stage.

Unfortunately my edition has encryption on the HDD and I can't clone it.I've tried everything
WHEN it does i will just buy another from
    http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/89-xxxx-in-1-parts

Purplec who posts here knows his stuff on these boards and would really be able to give an accurate picture of failure rates

I've heard most multi game boards run CPS 2 and CPS 3 games especially fighting games poorly with terrible frame rates

Well I like my fighters and this is what i was afraid of too.
But when i got the 1940 in 1 I noticed no lag out of the box,and no frame rate drop with any fighters...marvel,xmen,sf alpha,MK
I threw a p4 processor in any way as this stops any issues with lag/slowdown.
Didn't even put extra ram in
A quick and easy tested solution

Maybe it had a P4 in already
The blue elf and gamesbox are know for this lagin fighters but the beauty of the xxx in 1 boards is that they are like a PC and cheaply upgrade-able unlike the others

This new 2060 in 1 board comes with a 2.5ghz dual core proc with 1gb ram as far as I can see.

The OS is just a modified Win 2000 setup.
Pity I didnt get it working at 100 percent :(

The interface is a bit poo to be honest on it.

I'll be sending it back during the week anyway and will just wait until my Hyperspin pc is fully built and stick that in the cab.

Yeah a chinese Win2000 OS is a wonder to work with!!
The interface and pretty much everything else can be modified by editing the INI's etc.
Its basically a collection of loads of emulators with a master file that points to them all.
    You can add emulators/games etc
If you know Mame it's no bother.
I wish you had have got a working one to mess around with it and it looks like you were shafted but to be honest I am wondering why you bothered purchasing it in the first place if you have a Mame setup ready to go

Man you have been REALLY unlucky recently..every retailer is out to feck you over. You must have the patience of a saint.I'd take up collecting stamps instead at this stage...or bird watching

Yeah, bit of a run of bad luck with my retro purchases lately :(

Hopefully will get it all sorted anyway. I'll get a refund from arcademachines no problem and just need ronnie to sort me out with my monitor and control panel issues on the candy cab and I'm a happy man.
