Dublin Airport Hotel Parking Warning

Just wanted to let people know of a situation with one of the hotel car parking facilities at Dublin airport (off airport near another parking lot) that happened to a friend of mine recently.

They were heading to the States for two weeks and booked and parked in one of the Hotel carparks near airport (if Mods allow I will edit to include name)

On return from holiday they went to car and as he was driving home he noticed that the car sounded funny!

Brought it to a garage and discovered that the Catalytic Converter had been cut off the car - they then tried to close pipe to reduce the noise!

Apparently there is platinum in the CC's and hence their value!

Was telling the story to another friend last night who could name the car park without my prompting and told me of one of his colleagues had all four wheels stolen and replaced with ones with four bald tyres from the same place!

I was talking today to a parts supplier for a large, well known garage. There has been thefts in the hotel car parks at the airport, the long stay car park and one in a large shopping centre car park in west Dublin. (think river). All in the last couple of weeks.

They seem to be using gas cutters which do the job in seconds.

You forgot to lock it Mike.

But to be fair most carparks that I've ever been in have disclaimers saying you park at your own risk.
The moral of the story is to park where there is cctv or monitored car parking.

Rates at the Dublin airports own carpark are cheap at the moment.Even the short term carpark is only 2 euro a day dearer than the red car park right now.
I even met Shane Ross, not a fan of the DAA(or whatever it's called these days) coming out of that one on sunday-he can see a bargain when it's there.

For the sake of a tenner extra or so over a week,I also think thats a bargain.
With the amount of people milling around,it's very unlikely to be a place where heavy engineering is going to be carried out on a car by crooks for fear of being seen.

Ymmv though as to whether it is fully safe from crooks as no car park is ever truly safe.

Didn't forget to lock it, forgot I couldn't (on mobile).

    Locked now!
