Im getting a new car and my budget is 2k. I’m looking for something for the next 18 months min. I have been offered a 03 Skoda Octavia for 2k, it’s a 1.4 petrol and has 130k on the clock.

I was looking for a diesel but cannot get anything great within my budget in the Connacht area (as I don’t have time to travel too far).
I know very little about Skoda, but have been told they are economical on petrol....and my car would need to be as I do a 100 mile round trip every day to work.

Any info or experiences on Octavia's is welcomed (especially the 03 model)

I wouldn't to be honest. It's not going to be particularly economical (heavy car with underpowered engine) and that particular model is known for soft gearboxes and engines that like a drop of oil as the mileage increases.

With a car it's worth taking your time when buying.

Go and get yourself an Octavia...
    Oh, wait.... :D

Octavia is practically a Bora underneath so they're good cars alright. You shouldn't go for the 1.4 since they're addicted to oil, petrol and they cost a whole lot to maintain.

Go for the 1.9TDI. The 1.4, as already mentioned, is shit.

Seems expensive for a 2002 with that mileage. Here is a cheaper with similar mileage:

    or a 02 TDi:
