Door lock jimmyed, central locking unlocks the whole car

Some wee toerag broke into the wee Yaris (2001) today, parked outside of Cloverhill prison of all places. Seems he knew a thing or two though, jimmied the driver-side door lock out a bit, and hey presto, central locking obligingly opened all the doors! Wasn't fooled by the pretend alarm light on the dash that Yaris' have. How unfortunate is that, parking at prison the one day a thief who specialises in robbing cheapo Yaris' gets out?

When herself got back to the car, all the doors were unlocked, windows all intact, and the glove compartment was open and suitably emptied (GPS was the biggest loss).

Anyone ever seen that before? Not a massive amount of damage done, but bizarre that the car would open itself. Is that a Yaris/Toyota thing?

How much do you reckon we'll have to pay to get it sorted? Probably time to get an aftermarket alarm too, Halfords don't seem to do them anymore, anyone got any recommendations?
A few I've seen online seem to offer fancy features like keyless entry and remote start etc. Will these work on any car or do you need to have the appropriate wiring in place already?

No its not really a Yaris thing, its a common enough way for theives to break into/unlock cars.
By cutting the central locking cable, not gonna mention how you do it now.;)

The central locking is triggered and hey presto.
Best off repairing the damage and fitting a good aftermarket alarm. Steering lock.

Its unfortunate to hear but nothing unusual I'm afraid.

The centra locking will aways open all the doors once triggered from the drivers door, thats what its designed to do.

And the light on the dash isn't fake, its an immobiliser the yaris has though, not an alarm.

And there I thought it was just some daft light. A transponder immobiliser, so say Parkers. That's a bonus I suppose.

I had the door handle put back, not really worth replacing as such.

Definitely going to get a decent alarm system soon, but the choice is bewildering, and the remotes tend to look a bit naff.
Anyone recommend a decent two-way one with sensors and a ear-bleedingly-loud internal alarm?
Cousin is a mechanic, so really looking for a good kit with reasonable diagrams.

I'm torn between spending a good lot on a 2-way alarm/BlackJack/remote start and just getting a basic one and waiting till I change/get another car (next year maybe).

Or just don't leave anything valuable in the car, and clean the little circle marks off the windscreen that the sat nav sucker leaves behind as this tells a thief that there will likely be a sat nav in the car somewhere.

An alarm won't make any difference to a smash and grab thief like you encountered as they are in and out in seconds.

Yeah, she's always at me to wipe the round marks off. No need now, GPS's gone!
I think parking it at Cloverhill was the main problem, I certainly wouldn't leave anything in it when I park it up on (no disrespect to anyone) Dominick St.
