Postgrad concern...

Hey, I'm about to go into my final year of college and still totally unsure of what to do afterwards... I've decided that I'm going to do a Masters with the hope of being accepted to do a Ph.D, but I can't seem to decide what one will suit me... I'm starting to worry now because it won't be long before the deadlines will be looming to apply for the courses and I haven't a clue which one to pursue!Any advice from a postgrad student/or on specific postgrad course experiences?

PS: I'm currently doing arts in NUIG, I'm doing English and Soc and Pol. To date, my interest lies mainly with English, but I would be interested in hearing of anyones experiences of Soc and Pol related masters courses.

You might consider putting in something about what you've done for an undergrad, or what you're interested in.

If we don't know where you're at, we can hardly tell you where to go next.

you should be thinking of this at the end of your final year, not the start.
also dont think of what course you want to do but rather what job profession you want after it

I agree, what was your undergrad in? are there any follow on courses from that? if you enjoyed ur undergrad, perhaps pursue something in that area. If not, try to find a course that you may be interested in, or interested in working in later on. Its not uncommon for students to complete their undergrad in one area and do a post grad in a completely different area. But you have to remember that if you went that route, the workload will probably be much heavier for you. As regards masters vs PhD, a masters would give you an insight into what a PhD entails and I would advise you to do a masters if you are considering a PhD rather than jumping straight into one.
