Guys, total novice here. I'm interested in making some short things for youtube.

I could just sit in front my imac and use the built in camera and software but I was wondering about trying something a bit more fun.

Maybe two or three camera at different positions. I'd be doing this on my own so they would need to be static and ideally small. Its only for youtube so not looking for quality. Just something basic to mess about with.

Are there any kits with this sort of thing? Camera, interface & software in a box type thing?

Instead of using 3 cameras you could just buy 1 really good camera and repeat the process 3 times. You only really need multiple cameras if your only going to have one shot at recording an event.

If you think about it how likely is it you'll get whatever your trying to do in one take? You'll be repeating it over and over until it comes out natural so you'll have the opportunity for multiple takes using one camera. Otherwise you'r going to have 3 times as much useless recordings just to get one you want.

I'd say if you can record sound separately it would overcome any sound distortion from having the camera mic in different locations.

Cheers for the reply. Out of interest, can you recommend a single camera? Something that plugs straight into the mac might be good. No need for sound, I was intending to record that separately.

We have one of these logitech HD webcams at work. I haven't spent any time with it but the picture looked pretty good.

There are a good few of them out there, you'd want to look for the latest round ups for what's standard these days I know we paid 3 times as much for that logitech camera than the listed price there so the price seems to be tumbling which would indicate new better cameras have come out in the meantime.

Thanks, been looking at that camera you mention and others so that's cleared that bit up for me. Next I need to find some software. I did look at Final Cut but it looks a bit OTT for what I need. I do really want to be able to record two cameras at once though. Any ideas of Mac software that can do this?

I'm sure it can be done, I can only tell you about the software I've used (pemeire and after effects) and it's not possible out of the box, you can only capture one device at a time. Maybe if you did have two cameras plugged into your PC with separate software I don't see any reason why you couldn't record on both of them at the same time as they'll be treated as two separate devices then just import the two videos into your editing software.

There is a cut down version of premeire that's supposed to be fairly close to the full blown package called premiere elements. But I thought mac had a fairly decent video editor included free with their OS.
