I got new front brake pads put in but tbh the brake pedal doesnt feel any different.its got little resistance and is nearly hitting the floor.its braking fine but it feels loose and unsafe.
Ive given it two weeks and it doesnt feel different.how exactly do I know if they were changed ? I know bringing it to another garage would be the logical thing to do but I cant risk forking out more cash.
Everytime I have problems with the car the garages I go to take about three gos to get it fixed.im getting pissed off

If your brake pedal is soft and almost going to the floor then the brake pads where not your problem in the first place. You have air in the system or a leak somewhere.

Alot of people seem to think that new pads will somehow give them better brakes.
Old pads are simply running out of wear material. they will not be any poorer than new ones.
New pads will feel worse for a hundred miles or so too as they bed in specially if there is a bit of wear on the discs.
Obviously get your brakes checked out, you probably have another issue, maybe air in system or dodgy master cylinder. Could be anything really.
If you have alloys, you should be able to see if new pads are fitted - Well a mate or someone will anyway if you dont know what you are looking at yourself. If you have steel wheels, take off the wheel to check if you want to see the pads.

Did you go to the garage and ask them to check the brakes or did you just ask them to change the pads thinking it would solve your problem?

As was already said newer pads on their own doesn't improve braking performance, unless you old pads were on the metal.

Either way just go back and let them know the brakes don't feel right. It shouldn't cost anything for a diagnosis. If it's a master cylinder or something else them obviously you will have to fork out but it has to be fixed.

Everyone is strapped for cash at the moment but if it helps compare the cost of fixing it to how much it woul cost you if you ran into the back of someone( insurance premiums/excess, time off road and general hastle etc.)

No I just got it serviced and it broke down so they had to replace lots of things.Im still trying to pay it off.I havent brought it back in.I was in and out of there continuosly for a while. They arent so bad Id run into someone.Like I cant see why they couldnt fix it all thr same time. They are making a fortune from me cos Im paying for labour every different time.I think Ill ride a horse around the place maybe. All I need is a horse ,stables .

You can't take ANY chances with brakes!
My GF's car needed the brakes done, I thought pads would sort it, quick job, no problemo.
Then I noticed that the discs where fcuked, and a caliper was gone too.
So had to fork out for discs and a recon caliper, her car was laid up, she wasn't happy since she thought I "broke" her car, it cost both of us a lot of money and we where skinned for the rest of the month.
But I had to tell her to fork out, I had to lay up the car to make sure she couldn't go anywhere, since it was pissing brake fluid and would not have stopped for anything.
It might only be old brake fluid, your brakes might only need bleeding, or maybe the master cylinder is fubar'd, but in any case (if it was me) I wouldn't drive that thing for all the tea in China!
It might not be anything big and scary, but you CANNOT drive that car if there is even the slightest chance of there anything being wrong with your brakes!
    It's just not worth it.
BTW: Spongy brake pedal that nearly goes to the floor is the dead giveaway here.
edit: Horses also have lousy brakes and those shoes cost money too! :)

Sounds like a new garage is the more obvious solution...
