    Hi Guys,

Anybody got any ideas on how to get rid of my car. Basically there was a problem with the fuel pump which resulted in it causing some engine damage. Anyways to cut a long story short i am now looking to get rid of the car as do not have the money to get if ixed. Would it be better to sell for scrap, any ideas welcome. It is an audi a4 i.8t model, 2002 and in immaculate condition obviously apart from the above.

    Cheers,
    B

Take the cost of fixing it off the market price of similars car and then advertise it on donedeal.ie. Be up front with any potential buyer and if you can get a written quote for the cost of repair then it may make it easier to sell.

It most likely will attract small time traders who might be able to get it repaired cheaply with the intentions of selling it on at a profit. Be aware thought that they may offer you well below what you are looking for it. Ideally what you could hope for is a someone like a mechanic who could source parts at wholesale prices and repair in his spare time.

What exactly is wrong with the engine?

I imagine 'twas the oil pump rather than the fuel pump tbh, oil pick up even.

To get rid, donedeal is the way me thinks.

I've heard of VAG cars giving fuel pump problems & causing the car to run very lean causing serious engine damage.

    Guys,

Apologies the problem is with the oil pump and not the fuel pump as previosuly advised. Engine has a slight rattle noise when starting and this i presume is a result of the oil pump.

    Thanks for the advice.

Engine starved of oil. Happens a lot with the 1.8t A4. New engine by the sounds of it.

How often was the oil changed in the car?

The oil oil pump wasn't replaced already? That and the bottom end is the big outlay? There's a *fair* chance the oil pickup is clogged and causing low oil pressure. The rattles might dissappear if the pump is changed. As to how much damage already done, it might be fine for another 10 years. Or calve a day later. Dems the chances. If the oil pressure is normal when the pump is changed it's probably ok. Another source of rattle is the cam chain ensioner, and it is also affected by low oil pressure, but also has a small screen which can clog and reduce the tension causing rattle.

In USA this oil starvation/sludge damage on the 1.8T engine was replaced under warranty up to 10 years old I think. Of course service records required. Welcome to VW Paddyland.

Oil was changed every 6 months along with new oil filter.

6 months could be lots of miles, I've been told these need oil changes every 6k with good oil so as to stop sludge build up.

How much are you looking for the car, I've a 1.8t engine in my shed.

I have done a lot of research lately into the avlue of the car. they are going for over the 4500 mark. If somebody was really interested i would say for 3100 orno.

Bit on the expensive side considering the cost of a new engine plus fitting. To be sure you would need to buy a recon engine to be sure of the history.

If there is an oil feed problem then there is a good chance that there could be damage to the turbo also. 3100 sounds very rich to me.

Needing an engine you won't see €2000 for it really.

VW used to say every 10K miles on these..... I would be inclined to agree with you on the 6K (with good FULL synthetic) miles myself. Their own worst enemy when it came to sludge and then put their underpants on the head if customer comes in when the engine calves!
