    Wish I could do it.
This was always one of my favourites and the route is especially well thought out this year. Food stop is always well stocked with some of wicklow's finest home baking and thats always a plus!

I'm planning to do it. I take it it's not a mass start if it's starting from 8:30am.

Conflicts with the west wicklow 100 from the same folk as bring you the wicklow 200.
I'm not doing either anyway, cos I'm off to alton towers :D

Unfortunatly clashes with the skyride aswell which I have already committed to, as much as I loved this event last year I am going to have to miss it this year or face the wrath of mrs biker for letting the kids down on their jaunt around town, best of luck with it anyway.

Can't do it this year but thoroughly enjoyed it last year.

This was my first cycle event last year (I did the medium distance - they also had a short one last year) so defo planning to go back this year and try the full one! Last year I don't think you did SE x 2 so am I right in saying it's tougher? As someone already pointed out the food was excellent last year! Toblerone at the top of Shay Elliott was a highlight! :)

I'm in (subject to domestic negotiations).

I would like to do this event, just 1 question, I havn't ridden the SE or SM climbs before and the only other cycling event I did this year with tough hills was the Tour de Kilkenny 110km route.

How would these climbs rate compaired to the hills on the Tour de Kilkenny. I'm sure someone on here has ridden both events before.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I would say if you were able for TDK you could handle those climbs. The first bit of SM is pretty steep, (don't remember it being as hard as the hill out of Inistioge) but after that it's a longer slog to the top. SE comes right after it so you don't get much of a chance to recover. SE isn't too bad, especially if you go as slow as I do :D

If you take them at your own pace, you'll be fine. I did SM/SE back to back in the Wicklow Peaks 120 back in July, and as daragh_ says, you don't get much recovery between them, but they're not savagely difficult.

The trick is to take your time once you hit Ashford and turn right at the roundabout in the village, from there on it's quite draggy, you'll then get a bit of respite on the descent into Laragh, but it's very short lived. The long and the short of it is, once the main field hits Ashford village, it will start to split up dramatically, so it's best to get in with a group that are moving at a pace that you are comfortable with, that way, the climbing will look after itself once you tackle them at your own pace, forget what everyone else is doing on the climbs, and ride them at what is comfortable for you (redzone), if you want, you can hook up with me and a few others, we will look after you, I'm not a particularly good climber as I weigh in at 16 st, so my pace is comfortable for ANYONE;) and I'm easy to spot, large guy on a Planet X with blue tyres and bar tape/hoods.

Just to remind everyone about this event on Sunday, not 100% but I think there is a high 5 bidon and some high 5 products for all participants

If you are to pick one of two sportives - this one or the Rebel Tour in Cork, which one would you go for and why?

Do both, they are on different days, one of our club members did exactly that last year ;)

I wish I had legs for two days in a row. I am not experienced and this is my first season on the bike, but thanks for your great optimism ;).

record the rugby and watch it when you get home, that's what I'm doing

Sounds like the weather mightn't be too bad. Gales in the North, but meant to be less severe the further south you are.

The most important question for me is: is the toblerone food stop on the route again this year?

Domestic negotiations have broken down so I'm out. Shame as I'm thinking about joining a club and Bray Wheelers are top of my list.

    Have a good day all.

The routes are marked, the cakes are ready and the crews from Bray Wheelers and Bray Cancer Support Centre will be waiting to welcome everyone doing the Joe Loughman Randonnee tomorrow.

This is our twelveth year running the randonnee in memory of the clubs founder. We hope everyone has a great day and with a bit of luck the weather will be kind.

That sounds lovely :). Do you know how many riders are registered for The Event or how many do you expect?

Looking forward to this tomorrow now - heading out with 1 or 2 others. Probs gonna leave a bit early like we did on the Orwell event as we're slow enough and that way people will pass us throughout the day plus there's some hope of food being left at the stops! :) Might bump into a few of you

Just in the door! Toughest cycle I've done all year, in that I had moments where I thought I'd have to get off and rest! I blame it on baby being up during night plus haven't cycled in ages! Thankfully it was 106km and not 120km unless I took a wrong turn! Great event anyway and really enjoyed it, but sorry for BW that they seem to have had a low turnout.

It was tough for sure! I got back home not long ago, having my tea now ;).

I actually managed to cover almost 113km, as I got lost once outside Rathdrum and second time at the finish, when I couldn't find the Schools Road where the Clubhouse is located :(.

It was a great Event and even the weather did not put me off. The climbs were really tough and I had one moment that I almost gave up (but I didn't :D).
Thanks to the Organisers for all the facilities on the Route. The food was lovely and I found the people very friendly. Hope to see you soon Guys!

Well, that was tough. Nice to finish it all the same! Met a few boardsies, I presume you were the man on the hybrid I met at the clubhouse, who wasn't happy unless he did the lap of the main street.

...EDIT .. just saw from g0g's garmin: Elevation Gain: - 2,566 m!... that explains the aching legs then. averaged 24kph on the nose which doesnt seam so bad now
