IG index has no volume indicators?

    From their website:
How do I view volume indicators on the charts?

Our charting information is based on IG Index’s prices. When you place a spread bet, you do not actually take physical ownership of the underlying stocks, so there are no volume levels associated with these prices. Consequently, volume levels are not available on our charting applications.

Isn't this a massive flaw? I thought reading volume was an essential aspect of technical analysis from the books I've been reading

You need to look at the volume on the underlying instrument, how much spread betting is happening and in what direction isn't directly related to the movement of the underlying (which is what you are betting on) in the same why as it would be on an actual exchange.

Please tell me you're only using the practice platform. I think you might need to do quite a bit more reading before you're ready to bet for real.

So the underlying instrument is what IG uses for their prices? Like it's not the actual exchange but one based on it?

If you got hold of the volume for the underlying instrument (say the FTSE) would it help you trade on IG?

Oh and I'm definitely not betting for real. Still reading :o
