Thinking of taking up playing Rugby

I'm thinkning of taking up Rugby. I'm in my 20's. Have never played Rugby in the past.

I know and understand the rules of it follow Ireland and Leinster and have been to many games.

I've played Soccer in the past and currently play GAA but have always wanted to play Rugby.

My question is would it be hard to take up having never played it? Would anyone have any tips?

No, there are many clubs that are very welcoming to new players and the standards vary hugely from senior rugby down to J5. If you are fit and a relatively coordinated individual you would have no trouble playing at J3 from the off but if you're not comfortable, you could easily learn the ropes at a lower level. Positionally, it's probably better to start out on the wing to ease yourself in. The main thing you need to learn is how to tackle safely both in relation to yourself and the man you're tackling.

There are plenty of threads on here asking for new players so choose a club in your locality and contact them. Head down, check the place out, meet a few faces and give training a shot; it's not going to be hugely strenuous at the lower levels.

A lot of clubs have a J4 or J5 team where the standard isn't great and its a decent place for new players to learn the game

Only worry i'd have is i'm literally starting from scratch so starting training with a team already training or have trained together I wouldn't want to be getting in the way.

Forgot to add I'm in Naas, Co Kildare.

I think you're vastly overestimating the standard of J4 or J5 rugby.
