    Hi All

I really have no idea when it comes to this. I have a car to sell and from research its worth about 7k-8k and I'm looking to buy something for around 2k. Is my only option to try to sell my car privately and then look for something else. Can I assume a garage wont want to know me?

Thanks for any help or advise.

Make and model, mileage, year? What do you want to change to? Why are you changing? You can't be helped unless you're forthcoming with info.

Yes, you'll have to sell privately. The downside is that this can be a bit of a pain. The upside is that you'll get better value buying with cash.

Folks here will usually help out by suggesting a value for your car, suggest where to advertise and give feedback on your ads to make them more attractive to buyers.

Hi, I think you know the answer to this already. If a garage does want to know you can be sure that they are looking to make a profit at both ends i.e the car they sell you and your trade-in.

I imagine if the do a deal where you walk out with money they will want to be twice as sure of making a profit.

You can't blame them. After all, it is a business they are running. So while it might be a PITA so sell privately, at least you know you have got the best deal you can. It could easily be a couple of grand in the difference!
