    Hi all,

I was looking for tip and advice on painting my AEG.

I'm not doing a camo job or anything but my M4 has some scratches that make it look realistic, but I would mind giving it a new paint job.

Also I want to change the colour of the pistol grip and stock!

Any tips, paint types recommendations, sanding advice etc?

    Much appreciated!

well it mite be seen as unrelated but I often make the odd airfix model which is made of high gloss plastic bits and no matter what type of paint I use I always find myself sanding them lightly to give the paint something to cling to Also Ive heard Krylon spray paint is fairly good but doesnt agree with magpul PTs gear or clones of :)

Contact these guys: http://www.sgairsoft.biz/shop/ They can advise you on paint, as they also paint guns too, as you cant just use any paint, it has to be gun paint and there are specific types of paint depending what your gun is made from. I'd recommend getting it done by a store unless you have experience in doing it properly mate.

Krylon is widely used, it won't be as good as a professional job, but if its a quick and cheap solution you're looking for Krylon is your man.

Krylon is alright - it's durable and despite what people say it does come off. I used to use military grade spraypaint which was designed for doing touchups on vehicles (so I'm led to believe). But any matt acrylic type paint will do it.

If you're only painting plastic, clean it and get any dirt and grease off it and apply multiple light coats leaving 5-10minutes in between coats. If you're painting metal, you may have to sand it lightly before hand and give it a good base coat.

A good thick coat of hammerite id say bud.....Ok seriously though its worth taking a bit of time to mask the gun off properly because spray paint gets everywhere. Then id say just make sure its given a light sanding with wet and dry paper. Then a couple of light coats of decent primer (use higher grade wet and dry paper for rubbing down the primer and the colour coats).
Once all the imperfections are gone crack open the colour of choice and again use multiple thin coats building up the colour gradualy(Again sanding between coats prob use 1800-2000 grit for a good finish) Once happy apply clear lacquer and voila good as new.
If you have never done spraying before id advise doing a bit of practice on either a crappy old gun that doesnt bother you if it goes wrong or yer mams/wifes new bmw;).
    Hope this helps bud:D

Ive used this stuff a few times it is very good does not seem to chip as easy and will take a lot of wear, Plus it is a 400ml can lasts for ever:D, Just prep your aeg correctly, sand clean and what you don't want to paint remove or use masking tape

if you want to change the colour of your stock and grip and bits like that, buy them the color you want. painting them will do but will scratch off if its a gun you use a lot.

if yo want tough hard wearing paint, dont buy airsoft branded/marketed paint as you will spend a fortune on it and be well and truely robbed.
go to all city records in crow street in temple bar in dublin and look for the colour you want under the brand montana hardcore.

very easy paint to spray with and its designed for outdoor use.
the caps are designed so a light press gives a narrow fine line while a hard press will give a wide angle spray. very little runs.

    also smells like bubblegum.
