Portable heating recommendations

The house I'm currently renting has storage heaters, but last winter they were not enough to keep the house warm. We ended up using a superser in the main room as well to get the place hot, but we were running through gas bottles at a good rate for the coldest 2-3 months. We've gotten a good rent reduction for the year, but the landlord has said that he won't be doing anything about the heating in the house.

So, I'm wondering is there a more efficient "portable" heater out there than a superser? I've read a small bit about indoor kerosene burners, but I've never used one in person.

Maybe look into infra red heaters ,as a back up. Wouldn't say they'd be expensive to run and might take the bight out of really cold weather.

I don't have any links ,but remember people talking about them on boards before.

Portable gas heaters are not really a sensible long term solution for heating. My concern with them is that they are used in areas with unsuitable ventilation. I would have a look at why the storage heaters are not doing their job.

Is moving out an option? Energy prices are going up this winter. Price increases have been announced by suppliers already. Your rent reduction will not go as far as you might like it to.

Thanks for that, I'll look into them further.

The storage heaters were doing their job, it's just that we were finding that by 8-9 o'clock at night the house was losing heat and needed to by topped up. There is someone in the house pretty much all the time so the storage heaters would be open during the say as well as during the evening.

We're very happy with the house/location/rent bar the heating issue, so we won't be moving.

portable heater ? have you tried a hot water bottle, my nan swore by them.she use to have a little lagging jacket in all for it.

however i would say a radiant heater would be better and safer than any combustion portable heater.Post in the engineering thead as well. you may get an engineer specialising in this field of design.

First post and first time user on Boards,

With Gas prices going up next month and storage heaters a terrible solution to home heating one should look at the new electric radiators available on the market.

They look like radiators and give the comfort heat out like radiators except they run on electricity. About 3 companies selling them in Ireland now and some are doing a scrapage scheme for your old storage heaters.
