Memory currently running at 80% and over

Hi all, looking to resolve something that's been bugging me for the last few days.

The memory on my laptop (Inspiron 1525, a relic which has recently had a new hard-drive installed) has consistently been running at in or around 80%, more often than not above that. All I've been running has been Chrome and iTunes, for the most part, and occasionally opening folders.

Opened Task Manager, it showed me that Chrome was in need of updating, which led to error 7 (Chrome couldn't find a download server). Downloaded it manually, and installed. This hasn't made any difference as far as I can tell.

CPU is generally less than 10%, as normal.

I have a few add-ons for Chrome, minimal start-up programmes.. Could someone suggest why the memory usage is so high? It's causing a good bit of lagging (nothing I'm not used to at this stage, but it's more prevalent than before)

I don't recall it ever being this consistently high before.

When you go in to Task Manager, how many processes are running?

If you look at a screen capture of mine (Windows 7 32-bit), you will be able to compare..

How much memory is in the PC, was it upgraded?
Did the problem exist since you got the PC or after you installed something?
What Anti Virus are you running?

Here's mine, there are more unseen Chrome processes. (As far as I'm aware, each Chrome page is shown as a separate process?)

Is there anything that stands out for you? Apart from what I'm guessing is the main Chrome process at 200k, I don't see anything out of the ordinary.

Memory is now currently at 70%.

It is very odd to have so many instances of Chrome... Have you opened a number of separate Google Chrome browsers.... I see you have Eset GUI running, I assume that is your Anti Virus software?

The ten (or more) instances of Chrome.exe does not look right, I would start there..

Sorry, I forgot to mention Eset, which is out of date. I also have Microsoft Security Essentials.

I've one browser, at that time i'd 6 or 7 tabs open, along with the background pages for each add-on. I do try to keep these to a minimum but I like lots of functionality at the same time.

You're running two AVs.. Get rid of everything to do with Eset.. that could be the problem, it's certainly not helping anyway.. I put MSE on all the home PCs I fix/reinstall.

Get rid of one antivirus, if you got a paid Nod32 antivirus get rid of Microsoft security essentials, if not keep MSE and dump Nod32. You can only have one antivirus
