Paying Accommodation Fees?

I just accepted an offer for accommodation and then saw that the first installment is due no less than two weeks before my arrival? That means it has to be paid by this Friday right? But my student loan doesn't come in until 26th September and I have no money, what do I do? Do you think they will understand or will be able to help me? There's no way I'll have that sort of money sitting around until my loan comes in and I'm really worried. Any help would be appreciated!

To be honest your loan probably wont come in for another week possibly two after the the 26th, Trinity have to confirm your attendance before the student loan company pay out the first installment, mine didnt come through until the 7th of October when i was in first year. Could you get a loan of your parents to pay the accommodation until then?

Neither of my parents have savings, I'm paying everything by myself.

You'll be living in Halls is it? I would take their deadlines for paying with a pinch, or five, of salt. Last year I forgot to pay the second installment, didn't receive an e-mail from Halls until literally about 5 weeks past the deadline. Even then they weren't that stern about it, they just warned I *might* incur late fees if I left it too long. So I paid them a week or so later and all was fine. They're pretty lenient about it really so I reckon you'll be grand! If you're at all anxious I'd say ring them up just to clarify but I'm fairly certain you'll be fine :)

All you can really do is ring them up once the office opens tomorrow, as long as you have some proof that the money is coming in I doubt there'll be any problem.

Your only chance is to ring them first thing in the morning. But really, when did you think it was due? a week after you'd moved in?

That's the second deadline you missed, if you miss the first one they just won't give you a key. Also, pretty irresponsible of you to miss your rent by 5 weeks. You would have been out on your **** if you did that in private accommodation.

Not exactly... a grand gathered up in 2 days would be ridicolous. If you'd looked into it earlier you would have seen that there is an amount of the rent due up front. They're asking you for the money that you should have ready for the event anyway, and giving you two days to get it to them! :)
You have two weeks after the offer to accept your place in halls, and then the deadline to pay the first installment is in the email. If you're going to be late, do the repsonsible thing and ring them and tell them. Simple as.

no need to be rude dude... and to be fair, none of us knew we were definatly getting in and we did not know they would give us 2 days after we knew for certain to have it in by.... i actually looked for a loan ages ago and couldnt get one and im still looking for other possibilities so it is not my fault that i cant have the money ready by friday.

I'll admit it was rude (long day, sorry)
    but my point still stands.
Nobody knew you were definitely getting in, but you still applied there. When applying, did you just fill in the application form and not read anything else? The email gives you a link to the docs with the charges etc. If so, then fair enough, this is self inflicted. The costs on the website are given per term, and you hardly expected to be left move in without paying any rent?

To be honest i still havnt seen what exact amount is due and when its due for?... i was just going by what was said at the beginning of this thread.... like i know the room charges per term or whatever... but in the link the email sent it just says what your gonna pay overall for the year?.... Siobhan6 where did you see all the stuff bout the fees and when they're due?

May I ask if you had to pay the deposit straight away when you accepted the place? :)

So....we have to have over 1000 for friday? Is that what everyone is saying?? Where do we pay it? So confused!

I'm in the same position as siobhan here. They must have some payment extension option as I imagine a lot of students rely on the grant to pay for accom. It would be shocking if they didn't.

Due 2 weeks prior to arrival, which is friday. That's the official line.
Case by case, get in contact with the accommodation office.

Wait why is everyone only being charged 1000?
I'm in second year and they're charging me over 2 grand!

    Groinshot, any info?

Did they not tell ya second years get charged double? :P
My guess is these guys are rounding off their numbers, they see a 1 at the start of 1796 or 1648 and assume a grand, when it's closer to 2k.
I forked out 1800 quid for mine yesterday, so we're both getting shafted if they're telling the truth

I'd say talk to the SU about it. They can usually talk the accommodation office into helping you out and the welfare officer knows about grants.

Single room in halls though. Mines on campus, much cheaper!

I am really pissed. I applied for a Cunningham house and now I got a room in the modern apartment. I thought it would cost like €4000 but they say the total cost is €5500. I am definitely screwed if I don't get the grant. I'll have to look for work in Dublin too.

When I paid my deposit and it said my deposit was successful and then it said underneath that I should be aware that the first installment of rent would be due no less than two weeks before my arrival.

This I think you should defo pay as soon as you can. They gave me 15 days.

Just call them and explain. I think what someone said above about them being lenient is pretty true. I called them a few days ago and told them I couldn't pay my rent till next week and they were very understanding.

Good luck! But honestly I think they'll be pretty nice about it.

I got Cunningham and its 4595 euros. ): Life in Dublin is expensive.

Anyone knows if I can pay off the remainder of my rent for the year? I don't want to deal with currency fluctuations. Help very much appreciated! :D

I just rang halls there... we have till the 9th of september... apparently the friday deadline was for people who got offered places a long time ago! :)

Can someone please tell me how we pay it?? I went onto my accom application and its saying I owe 0.00 charges?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 140 ✭✭Siobhan6

Rang the accommodation office, she said for people like me whose loans don't come in until 26th September (or late in general) we can pay weekly or monthly for the first bit until we get our loan and then just pay the rest for that term, but you'll have to ring and let them know so she can send you a payment plan etc.

She said obviously they can't let people live there for 2 or 3 weeks without paying anything, but I worked out around 120 EURO for a shared room per week, which should be do-able hopefully =)

You probably won't be able to see the charge until it needs paid, which is tomorrow, but you can pay online (only by credit card) or over the phone (credit or debit card), or you can pay by bank draft but im not sure how that works.

Hooooly sh*t this is so different from when I lived in Halls 4 years ago, then it was pay or we switch off your key card. Thankfully my parents were able to help me then. No idea what I would do now, cheers Recession...

Did you get an email with an invoice? There's a link in there.

Go to the Student Bookings page. The same page where you applied for the accomodation in the first place. It'll tell you what to do.:)
