its an older syphon the one that needs the cistran to be taken off the bowl.

am going to try and do it myself as havent money for a plumber at the moment.

i know i need replacement syphon and was thinking of fitting one of the new type 2 flush ones, also should seal break in future i wont have to take cistran off wall again.

probably get a new close coupling kit while im at it.

can anyone recommend what sealant to use on mains water pipe and around seals when putting everything back together cant remember whats the liquid seal stuff is called.

am i missing anything if so please post

    tks

well that didnt work out too well at all - first of all the dudley syphon didnt fit my cistran, so went and bought another from plumbers got it fitted and hung unit back on wall - all ok except now the waterlevel hits the top of the new syphon and water starts pouring into bowl, its not going into bowl upto this point. only when it hits top of syphon. presume syphons have a high water level built into them???

tried adjusting the ballcock arm to limit amount of water into cistran to no avail. i just cant get waterlevel below syphon height!

one question? can you get ballcocks of different sizes / shapes as its fairly tight for space and ballcock is dragging the side fo the cistran?

    any ideas

    thanks

i take you mean a low level cistern. i know money is prob tight for you at the moment. but it can be a tricky task.
anyway is the cistern on the wall with a flush handle or has it got a long chain. Advice and ill guide you thru it.

no its actually a close coupled toilet here is the photo:

I couldnt afford a plumber and went with the advise of a local plumber merchant who said i would have to remove whole cistran from the wall so i did that then i turned out when i had the old syphon out of it that i could have been taken apart but i couldnt get replacement gasket or whatever its called the same size.

i would reakon my problem now is the water level in the cistran is hitting the overflow on the new smaller (ie not as tall as orig) I have tried changing the ballcock settings but cannot get it to level below syphon top/head. if that makes sense.

Can you not bend the bar of the ball cock to adjust the level correctly?

i actually paid a plumber to call to the house today as i had no way of switching on water in bathroom without either tying off ballcock or letting water flow into bowl all day.

the problem was I was sold a ballcock kit stalk and plastic extendable arm in homebase but it was missing a washer on the button end that shuts off water when ball raises.

its fixed now and i got the plumber to put a stop valve on the feed into the toilet so i can isolate it in future if i need to without affecting whole bathroom.

also while he was here i got him to fit a mixer tap shower type to the bath.

i had all parts except the valve and the stop valve

he charged me 65 euro not sure if good or bad but its fixed now so thats the main thing.

    thanks for input guys
