Sky abroad with multiroom card?

Greetings folks, I have recently moved to the Netherlands. I took a digibox with a multiroom card from my parents place along with me and was wondering if this is sufficient to get me set up over here?

I know a lot of people say it must be hooked up to a phone line etc but we have been sky digital customers for many years and we have never had multiroom boxes or the HD box hooked up to a phone line. Was done on installation but pretty quicky removed. Nothing underhanded, just the particular phone line they were hooked up to broke and has stayed broken. Sky have never rung or emailed or posted anything out after literally years of no phone line so there is no issue there.

My main question is will a multiroom card work in this scenario if sky won't kick up any fuss about the phone line issue? My old man is looking to cut down expenses and is going to get rid of sky at which point I am going to take the HD box over here and take over payment on the account but can my box and multiroom card tide me over until then?

Also if anyone happens to know anywhere decent to get this done over here I would love to know.

Much obliged for any advice at all. Regards.

all will work unless sky suss your card(s) are not at the address of the acccount!! if you havent had probs before you should be OK!!

Cheers pal, that's great news. Been looking into installing the dish myself though I have never done this before. Reckon I should get someone here to do it or give it a go?

    The cheapest option would be
    1st. PATIENCE !!
secondly: buy a Satbeeper and a compass ( approx £15) find the Signal meter in the set up menu and then solidly fix your dish to a south to East wall, connect up a cable, with the satbeeper and digibox
set the Inclination to approx 25 degrees point the satellite to approx 28 degrees east of south then gently move the dish, listening to the beeper. once you have found 'a' satellite, check on the signal meter on your Tv screen, that it is in fact Astra 2 and then fine tune.... if the network id says 0002 and the transport stream is 07d4 you are on the right satellite. if not try a little more to the east and set the inclination a little down as you were probably on astra 1 at 19 east, not astra 2 at 28 east.

sorry lads i just want to be sure before i commit.

so i can ask sky for a second sky+ hd box and bring this to my parents in belgium so they can get sky?? do i need the card to be activated or anything like that or will it work straight out of the box? they have just moved house and there is a dish that was previously used for sky so that side shouldn't be a problem. would it be fair to assume that if the box works in ireland it will also work abroad providing the satelite is positioned correctly? and does it being a second/ multiroom box have any effect on the service?

thanks in advance for your help, this could be one of the all time great christmas presents!

ronan a multiroom or any kind of irish sky card would work no problem in belgium- your only problem is getting it there. sky demand multiroom and parent boxes are connected to the phone line at all times so they know where they are, and someone and their pal cant go halves on one subscription. have you multiroom already? if so disconnect it and your main box from the phone line. if sky start ringing you asking you about why it isnt hooked up to the phone it could be tricky unless you can blag them. if they dont call, you are good to go. a new satellite is only about 50-70 quid if that affects your decision to haul one over. getting sky in western europe is common practice and you can source an ex-pat friendly satellite company easily to pop out and hook you up.

you need a phone cable that stretches from Ireland to Belgium. Also unless you pay a full price it's Fraud.

I suppose that is actually true. Maybe more 'ethical' to set up and pay for a sky account that is THEN to be used outside Eire...
then it is only breaking the 'terms and conditions.
Morally more acceptable than Fraudulant use??!!!?

give over lads. you're worrying about ethics on a multiroom box being in your bedroom or your parents in belgium as your dealing with Rupert Murdoch's BSkyB? they're still getting more money then they would be! it can be done but only if you slip through the net in terms of phone line. if you don't google, you will find ex-pat sat companies in belgium who can provide everything. i assume its expensive but if i was in belgium i'd fork out. if you can get a multiroom over though you willhave all irish channels from the irish viewing card.

Thanks for your help guys. My sky isn't connected to a phone line as the guy who fitted it didn't have enough cable with him so that shouldn't be a problem!!

There is a HUGE difference between Fraud and breaking "Terms and Conditions" which are technically in breach of EU laws. If you pay full price you are not committing fraud if you personally purchase the service in the intended location and then use the viewing in a different EU country. However Sky are entitled to cease ANY subscription card and then stop taking your money.

It would be suspicious if there were 2 separate accounts in the same apartment though so my hands are kinda tied...

most people down here in France get their ' second ' account set up at friends/ relatives addresses (who do not have Sky Sub).Otherwise there are 'specialists' who will do this for you.

Same in southern Spain for 2 million British expats.

Hi guys, after a long chat with sky it seems this is not an easy solution. A multiroom box must be connected to a phone line even if the main box isn't. I also tried to get a second subscription and pay in full but was told that u can't have 2 accounts at the same address. I guess I will have to go with one of these cowboys so which is kind of rediculous as they are breaking the law and I just wanted to bend it!
