    Hi guys

Groupon have an offer today basic service with advance pitstop for €35 - basically oil and filter. This is the oil they are using 10W40 standard. Would anyone know if this is likely to be ok for my car? CAn't find my owners manual anywhere :-(

    Thanks all

That price is designed to entice you in, then they stitch you up by telling you that your particular car needs more expensive parts and oil. You will not get out of there with a service for €35 or anything like it.

I had a 2007 Golf GT petrol 1.4 TSI 170 PS and the following oils were approved for that model....

    Castrol Edge 5W-30
    Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30
    Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5W-30

Yes you would need the oils as detailed by coylemj. This will add about €40 straight away compared to price of 10w40.
vw dealers are now offering €99 (possibly 119 for your car) services and at those prices its probably the best option. Cannot see any backstreet garage coming in any cheaper really if they give you oil that is anywhere near spec.
Of course they will look to see if anything else is due on the car and hope that they can get some more cash out of you that way but then again, so will every other garage.

Defo do not let anybody put 10w40 in that engine 5w30 or 5w40 really and no to getting that service for 35 euro mayb you would get that for just oil and filter on a 1999 1l Nissan micr.do youself a favaor and make sure to have the car done buy a repital garage it helps in the long run.as I always say anybody can service a car but it takes a good mechanic to stop problems b4 there gona happen and that's the service you pay for
