    Anyone else doing this one?

Just signed up there, want to get a comeback race in before the Dublin half marathon.

Hopefully less windy than last year

I'm going to head out to it - might jog it but I'm most likely only going to be there as a supporter seen as I'm not going to Cork that weekend now. :pac:

Ran this the last three years, good course & well organised. Last year was windy for sure, hoping for a calm, dry day this year.

Good luck with that, it's windy about 99% of the time around there :pac:

As this is run around firhouse off the mountains I was expecting it to be windy. The first 1/1.5 miles were fine but as soon as one made the sharp left turn the wind hit one like a wave. It is challenging but great for building strength and power for further races like marathons. One cannot expect to be doing PBs all the time. Some races should be tough and challenging to use then as a build for the races that really count. Great food after!:)

I dont think the course itself was that hard (maybe I am just used to running the course as I train up around that neck of the woods) having said that last year was not pretty the wind coincided with the gradual incline after the first mile or so which probably made it harder than it should have been. Got in no mans land last year with no one to share the work into the wind with so suffered having said that very enjoyable race.

Was planning on doing this but had to change plans and give it a miss

Agreed. It's like a bloody wind tunnel. I remember running up it one night last winter with another lad, gale howling. We were doing about 9 m/m and it felt like race effort.

Just saw the weather for the weekend; according to Jean Byrne it's set to be very windy indeed.

I'm in but will be tagging 12 miles on before hand and running it at pmp pace. We have a work team so I said I'd run.

What time does the race actually start?

    Starts at 11.

    Starts at 11.

Cheers. Was thinking of doing it but after last years wind tunnel race and the way things are shaping up weatherwise for the weekend, think I'll sit this one out.

I'll be there, using AJ as a wind breaker! ;)

Where does the race start and which direction are you running? Thanks

Think I'm going to give it a shot. First 10k in months :)

The race starts on Ballycullen Drive beside the Firhouse community ctr, then you head left on the Ballycullen rd, 2 X 5k laps...Map below from last year..

Weather forecast seems a bit better now than it was earlier in the week. Will be interesting to see the number tomorrow.

This part-time windbreaker has to cry off as his brother-in-law is getting hitched tomorrow & guess who is doing the ceremony? I'd prefer to run ten 10ks.Enjoy, I have others lined up who will shepherd you wind free to the finish!:)

For the second year in a row had to battle through a fairly heafty wind. Definitely not ideal conditions. Nice tea and muffins after though.

Thanks to BHAA and Grant Thornton for another well organised event.

I found it tough going with the long straight roads into the wind, which never seemed to be behind us! There also seemed to be a lot more uphill (albeit gentle incline) than downhill. Perhaps the laws of nature don't apply in Firhouse?!

I think everyone's times were a bit slower than usual but I still enjoyed it. Nice hot shower and some tea and cake in the sunshine afterwards topped it off nicely (it's all about the post-race snacks with me; it's never a bad race if there's some nice cake!)

How you get on? was driving past you guys at the first lap looked like you were going well (definitely not Threshold pace;))

It was a good run. Thought the heavens were going to open up at one stage. The wind didn't help the uphill section again this year, but, I think that just comes with the course at this stage.

I agree with the muffins too, yum.

Enjoyed the race. Well organised and ran as usual.

Went out to run what should have been comfortable 3.20 splits. At 3K I was almost 15 seconds off without much of a feeling of slowing down. At 5K I was 30 seconds off :( At 7K I had given up the will to keep pushing forward:)

Haven't ran in conditions like that before. The finishing time was my worst in 3 years. Still I enjoyed it and as a tempo run it did the job. Just not a course for a fast time as I expected it would be before hand.

Well organised as usual, Thanks to all voluinteers, good lay on afterwards...5 mins and 37seconds off last years time (:

A gueller of a race today with the wind. Legs were like jelly with 3km left. Was in a heap crossing the finish line! Still, a well organised event and a nice course. The fruit cake went down a treat! Will deffo pen it in again for next year

Another spot on BHAA race in terms of organisation, value for money and post race yummies.

The wind however messed up things and I was a few minutes slower than last year. Although if I am being honest I can't really blame the wind or that drag up the Firhouse Road.

Does the Dublin marathon count in the BHAA league ?

More like marathon pace in that wind. 35:56, which I'm happy with considering the 10miles before. We tried to knock on a few miles after to make a day out of it but legs were in bits by that stage.
