    Are you allowed impose any load onto party walls? (ie say steel beams). My understanding is that youre not but perhaps someone can jog my memory.

    You can but you should do it in a non destructive manner which the other party can insist on. For this you need a structural engineer who can design the beam to wall connection to hang onto the walls face as opposed to bearing straight on top of it .

    Please no one elaborate more on the structural aspects.
