Social Welfare entitlements

I am a college graduate and for the past year and a half I have been working in cafes and deli counters. I desperately want to go back to college to do a masters degree but the one I have chosen is extremely competitive and you need a lot of experience in the area before you can get in. The only way to get this experience is to volunteer. At the moment, I am in a dead end and my education is going completely to waste. I need to get some experience and apply for a masters but the only way to do that is to quit my job and concentrate on getting experience which will also aid me during the masters degree as I have to work in this area throughout it. I am wondering what social welfare benefits I am entitled to. I am 22 and I live with my partner of seven years who is also on the dole having recently been let go his job. I know many people will have a problem with someone quitting a job when they are employed but it cost the state money to educate me, even though I did not get a grant. That money is going to waste while I am making sandwiches. My intention is to work towards getting a higher paid job where I will be a more contributing member of society. My partner is not qualified and is only getting 90euro a week so I am trying to support us both on the 200euro a week I earn. I am worried we won't have enough money to get by if I claim the dole too. Any information that you can give me about what I am entitled to would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Volunteer during the day and work in a restaurant/bar in the evening and weekends?

You've done it before, it's how most of us got through college

I don't agree at all with the morals and goals of the internship scheme but it might actually be what you're looking for. From what I know, you'll get 50 euro on top of what you would be entitled to from welfare. Now, whether that means you'll get 188+50 euro a week or a striped down dole plus the additional 50 euro, I don't know. I'd look into it, it's a dreadful system that I absolutly loath but if you can make it work for you, then by all means go for it.
