What does smell do for you?

Been with the bf for almost a year and I've never worn perfume. Just not to bothered about getting any. Anyway, I found a bottle of it in my room the other day, thought it smelt nice so gave myself a spray. Met with the bf later and I could just tell that he didn't like it. Haven't worn it since....

So, what does smell do for you? If you saw a lovely looking man/woman and he/she had an awful fragrance on them would it turn you off enough to leave?

Maybe she is gay for Milhouse.

Smell is quite important, can be put off by someone from it alone.

how can you not wear perfume.

One ex of mine never wore perfume, always just smelled of soap, fresh and clean. I liked that. Other girls I've been with or liked wore perfume, and it was part of the package. I'm guessing it was something he identified with you that you didn't wear perfume and that's been altered now. It's not to say he'll have a major problem with it or anything, just that something has changed and he's responding to it. His feelings will also change as well as things go on, regarding everything, so the fact that he doesn't seem to be keen on the perfume now doesn't mean he won't love it in a week or so. He may, or may not. That's just the way people change with time.

Maybe he thought that seeing as you never wear perfume but when you met him you were smelling of it, that you clearly must have been secretly lezzing it up with another woman. Now how would something like that go exactly?

Wouldnt be big into the smell of perfume. Can be very sickening and nothing sexual about it. Just be clean and natural.

To me all perfume smells like something you'd use to unblock a toilet or clean a floor, I really don't see how any one likes those chemical smells.

Anyone else ever notice that "girly smell" that women sometimes get? I honestly can't describe it better than that. Sometimes I'll meet a girl I know, and catch myself thinking "bloody hell, she smells good today". Not sure if it's a pheremone thing or what.

Does perfume go off? How can I tell?

Yes. New unopened fragrance normally last well (at least a year or more if kept properly) but opened perfume will eventually go off as it is based on a volatile liquid that will evaporate. You can tell if it has gone off by checking to see if it has darkened significantly or thickened and you get a strange sour smell on opening the bottle. To prevent this happening you should always leave your perfume with the lid on tightly and not placed in direct sunlight or near a heat source. Unfortunately there is little you can do with it once it has gone off as trying to dilute it will not return it to its former glory.

if it was found lying about in your room it may have been off :D

    Ninja'd.

Perfume was most likely rank. May smell nice when you put it on, but after wearing it for some time, the alcohol evaporates and the smell of pee is apparant. Only the most expensive perfumes have good lasting qualities.

that takes the words 'its gone off!' to a whole other level

Not mad on perfume to be honest. Some of it smells OK, some of it makes me want to puke

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,291 ✭✭✭wild_cat

I don't unusually wear perfume I prefer to smell of soap and freshness.

The only time I've used it in the past few years was when I gave myself a shot of my mothers chanel no.5....

My brother later enquired why I smelled like our dead grand aunts coffin.

I don't like strong smelling ones to be honest. They'd put me off a girl. A nice subtle one can be lovely once it's not overused.

Because it usually smells horrible and when it doesn't people put too much on anyway, making the room smell like a perfume factory. Better none at all than too much.

I only ever wear perfume on a night out. and that's only if I remember it.

what I hate is passing a woman in the street and getting a mouth full of her perfume, and it stays in your nose all day, eroding your insides. puke. why wear so much??

It's normally because they have a poor sense of smell.

Too much perfume is annoying especially on the neck. You get a horrible taste in the mouth when you bite them there.

Smell is perhaps the most potent sense with regards to memory/nostalgia. I remember a woman walking past me and I got a scent of her perfume. I was thrown back to when I was a young laddy for half a second, unreal.

I absolutely hate the smell of perfume on my bird. It can just be overbearing sometimes. Reminds me of when i walk past the lush shop on the bottom of grafton street and nearly get sick with the smell!

Smell very important to me. I love the smell of a freshly washed man - not drowned in lynx or aftershave. Just man skin and phermones, yummm! The smell of a man's clean armpit even :)

I really hate that, a woman walking around in a cloud of perfume - it's like being assaulted by a moving toxic bomb.

Or the smell of old lady perfume tickling your nose when you go to the theatre - yukyukyuk.

I saw a goodlooking guy in town yesterday. I was ogling him until he walked past and I discovered that he reeked of deodourant/aftershave and it really put me off.

My OH doesn't wear any scents and I love it. A proper manly smell is divine.
