trying to crop some images in Lighroom. When I start the process, the image defaults to a smaller or original size, and it is difficult to figure out the correct line to straighten the image. Have you come across this and is there a way around? any advice much appreciated.

Under the Tools menu option, you can set the Crop Guide Overlay - thirds, grid, etc.

Then it should be easier for you to see the lines to straighten along.
