Robonaut will save the day Nasa's Robonaut woke up in Space today. article here,

there is also a short video when you scroll down the page

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.) -- NASA's humanoid robot has finally awakened in space.

Ground controllers turned Robonaut on Monday for the first time since it was delivered to the International Space Station in February. The test involved sending power to all of Robonaut's systems. The robot was not commanded to move; that will happen next week.

"Those electrons feel GOOD! One small step for man, one giant leap for tinman kind," Robonaut posted in a Twitter update. (All right, so a Robonaut team member actually posted Monday's tweets

It's a pitty seeing it's only been put up in the past 10 years (or less!?)

Its not a question of letting it happen, its a simple matter of safety. It the rocket is not ready you don't launch. Better to be on the ground wishing you were in space then in space wishing you were on the ground:eek:

Isn't it a bit of an overreaction though? OK, a failure is always bad, but they do happen. It's obviously not a design flaw, since that rocket has been working well for decades. It's an errant single stage failure. It doesn't mean manned spaceflight is suddenly doomed.

That’s very true. The problem is if Soyuz is grounded for any period of time then the ISS would have to be de-crewed and run on automatic for a while which interrupts experiments and runs the risk of a failure that cannot be repaired for some time.
However the Soyuz are back on flight status so for the moment there is no problem. Into the future while Soyuz is the only craft capable of transporting crews to the ISS there will always be the risk of an interruption to operations.

Seems to me that all of ROBO's parts aren't working. Like his brain.
As far as the Russians, study your history.
