Suitable Grease Debate

    Howdy all,

Over the next while I will be doing the dirty and cracking open my gearbox for a good service (clean, grease, shims, health check) and I've been checking around for different greases.

I've heard some suggest White Lithium grease and others Superlube (contains PTFE).

Both of which are in Halfords in spray cans so I just want the opinions of masters before I settle.

Personally, I thought the PTFE one (http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_191030_langId_-1_categoryId_212351) would make a little more sense with a nice non-stick coating thanks to the Teflon but I will let you educate more!

    :D

Grease does not come in an aerosol can. Grease comes in a pot or tin. What you're looking at is highly viscous "grease" (really an oil) and dry-film lubricant (the PTFE).

Depending on what you're using it for, the choice is yours, but if you're inside the gearbox, I'd go with neither. Molybdenum grease is my go-to. Easily found and relatively cheap. Perfect for airsoft gearboxes and piston running rails.

have to agree with dex, stay away from spray can versions there not suitable for gearbox, personally i use the Castrol brand grease as dex mentioned, big tub is about 5euros and will last a long time

lithium grease does come in a grease form aswell. as in, a tube of it.
i have some here infront of me that i had for something completely unrelated to airsoft.
    its EP2 Lithium Soap Grease.

anyone any opinions on that? as i've loads of it.
