Right, I am back again with the same old prob!!

Story: I have yucky legs at the mo, there was a point there where if I shaved them they would go all goosebumpy and stung like hell. I used St Ives/Dove exfoliator, with little success, found that I was having reactions to Dove senstive mosturiser and at this stage have gone through so many moisturisers that I have spent a fortune :(

I keep fit so it's not a circulatory issue.. I have brand new razors and change them a lot more often then I'd like to.. I soften my legs with warm water and use conditoner sometimes as well! I couldn't even shave this weekend as they were so sore the slightest rub of fabric over them stung like hell!!

So can someone recommend an inexpensive exfolitor and moisturiser that'll get them back into shape??

I have sensitive skin, and often use those exfoliating gloves with shower gel on my legs.
Alternatively, you could make your own exfoliant with sugar and a cheap moisturiser.
I use E45 body milk as a moisturiser after exfoliating.

I find soap and glory exfoliator to be brilliant. It's like brown sugar and lime in a tub with a blue lid? They're body butter is also excellent for really dry skin. It's so thick and luxurious.

I have really sensitive skin and so far have never had a reaction.

You could also try make your own exfoliator, there are lots of recipes online. My brother's wife also has an excellent one from the body shop and uses their shea butter body butter which is also amazing! :)

    Some ideas:
Could you be allergic to shaving gel? My legs were always at me but I stopped using gel and just shaved them under the running water of the shower (found that still water in the bath doesn't work as well). They were much happier with me doing this. My sister also found the same.

Also I always found that the stubble of re-growth kind of caught on my trousers! And that made my legs itchy and bumpy around each hair!!
Then I discovered epilators. They are the business! Regrowth is softer and patchy so no catching on trousers and thus no irritated legs.
The only thing I would say is not to use one one your legs if they are sore but to wait until soothed and start again.
Hope that's relevant even though it has nothing to do with exfoliators.

PS I also think Soap and Glory's body butter is fab. Soaks in quickly too.

+1 on the Soap & Glory exfoliator (flake away is the one I use) and body butter (righteous butter). I recently got a new shave gel, Queen of... Ooh la la, it's really very good.

Also I think a normal facecloth with a moisturising shower gel or E45 shower cream daily does a great gentle exfoliation - by the sounds of it you might not want to try the full on exfoliation until your legs heal!

If you are finding you're reacting to exfoliants, you could try making your own. I use one that's just almond oil and sugar. Super cheap and easy and I find it works really nicely. Leave my skin nice and smooth too.

I love Soap & Glory's exfoliators too, I use Flake Away or The Breakfast Scrub. They contain shea butter so are fairly moisturising too!

Thanks a mil everyone, I picked up a glove and some exfolitaor today from the Beauty Palour in Superdrug (Soap and Glory rip off I think!). I did actually take advice from someone here in the past and used almond oil but unfort it didn't quite do the job and found I had to use a lot and was oily for ages after. Will try mixing it with sugar next time. Fingers crossed!

Epilators, I haven't tried! Don't use shave gel and also find the running water better than bath water.. thanks again!

You just shave your legs with water only? For me that is guaranteed shaving rash. Even using conditioner, it can be a painful result.

No, no as I said I sometimes use conditioner, but always showergel...I was referring to Roselm's post where she said running water is better than a bath, which I agree with! :)

Oh right, with you now - that said, I can't shave with shower gel either without getting manky red razor bumps. Last time they came out (lazily used some cheap conditioner to shave with) the Palmers Cocoa Butter moisturiser really helped, the Soap & Glory while lovely wasn't strong enough to deal with the rash.

Olive oil and sugar is the best thing in the world for your legs no kidding i will never buy a scrub or exfoliant gloves again! U get smooth skin and moisturised skin too also garnier 7 day intense moisturiser is super it works great and in boots and sam macauleys lately there has been deals to get it for like 2euro! Hope this help...p.s the olive plus sugar scrub can b used daily n also on the face but i would recommend more oil less sugar on ur face because the face tends to be quite sensitive.

Thanks everyone, been having good results with exfoliating gloves and the beauty parlour exfoliator: P6010981.JPG

Knowing my experiences tho, I'll only get good results for a bit then need to change..

I've used Clinique Sparkle Skin in the past and it's the best body exfoliator I've ever used! It's quite creamy with a very fine, sandy grain in it that I found really polished my skin. It doesn't leave any residue and has a nice minty fragrance to it. I don't remember how much it costs as I haven't bought it in a while but I really think it's great.

I got the Soap & Glory box set for Christmas last year so I've been using Flake Away since I finished Sparkle Skin. The grain is much thicker than SS and I find I have to scrub it in a bit more to make it effective. It also leaves a kind of oily residue on my skin which doesn't bother me too much but I think some people don't like. I'm nearly at the end of this so I'll be moving on to S&G Breakfast Scrub when it's finished but I think I'll eventually go back to Clinique.

Just to add, I've started using S&G The Breakfast Scrub. It smells sooo yummy! Like brown sugar and maple syrup. The grain is quite big so I find I really have to scrub to get a buffing effect but it doesn't leave any residue behind just a yummy scent. I still prefer Clinique Sparkle Skin though. :)

I find that all the 'girly' products are absolutely horrendous and result in me cutting myself or getting really bad rashes.

I've taken to using a Mac3 and Nivea shaving foam and it's worked a treat. I always moisturise with Neutrogena body balm, which is pretty much the only product I've found I can use.

I exfoliate with Boots Extracts Body Scrumb(there's a few different 'scents', but I find the Mango or Coco ones the best due to their texture).

Putting your legs under cold running water should help, as would shaving with the direction of your hair, especially if you're extra sensitive. Also, shaving at night/the day before you're going anywhere the next day/evening.

Just another thought: if you say the products only work for a little while, would it help if you changed them every two weeks or every month? That way you wouldn't be relying on just one 'wonder product' and your skin wouldn't be getting too used to it?
