My machine is nearly a year old. Over the last few days the performance of the battery has decreased significantly. Coconut Battery tells me it's operating after 346 cycles, and to a maximum power of 4763 mAh out of what was originally 5770 mAh.

Is this normal for a battery after a year of heavy but measured use? Since it's still under warranty for another few weeks, is there any way I could expect to get the battery replaced? I use it away from a power source quite often so battery length is important to me.

    Cheers.

That's a lot of cycles to clock up in a year, but according to Apple you should only see a drop to 80% after 1000 cycles on a unibody MBP. It would be worth calling them at least, since you're under warranty.

    Apple's Battery Page
Your new Apple notebook features advanced battery chemistry that greatly extends the battery’s lifespan. The built-in battery of your MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air is designed to deliver up to 1000 full charge and discharge cycles before it reaches 80 percent of its original capacity. In addition, Adaptive Charging reduces the wear and tear on the battery giving it a lifespan of up to 5 years. Be sure to fully charge your portable when you plug it in for the first time, and then run Software Update to ensure you have the latest software. Apple periodically releases updates that may improve battery performance.

Thanks for that. I can't seem to find a number to call on the support pages. Do you know of one?

EDIT: Found it, in big dirty bold type that no one mentally capable should ever miss.

It's well within normal usage decrease apparently, so no replacement for me. I'll see how things go over the next few weeks and try it again before the warranty runs out.

If it's only happened in the last few days it might suggest you are running something that is eating more of the battery. Check Activity Monitor and see if there are any rogue processes.

5335 out of 5770 after 337 cycles in 9months, battery life is the same as ever.

Yours might be a dodgy battery.

Look into resetting the PRAM also. I'm not sure how this works on the unibody macs but on the older ones it was cmd+opt+p+r. Also, and I think this was more relevant, you can clear the batter state info also. On my old MacBookPro you took out the battery and held the power switch for 5 seconds or just over. Then you replaced the battery and the power management module requeried the battery.
