Wall tiles for tiny Ivory hi gloss kitchen

Just installed an Ivory High Gloss Shaker style kitchen from Cash & Carry Kitchens in my extremely small kitchen which I'm very pleased with. Dark walnut worktop and ivory shiny floor tiles.

Any advice on wall tiles to add a little colour and light please?

Saw a shiny 1 called Marni or Marmi in Tile Warehouse that looks a bit like mosaic with shades of browns and creams that comes in a tile around a ft sq with that looks as if it has 5x5 tiles in it.

Really fancied the larger glass mosaics in Tubs and Tiles called Harvest Mix or Harvest Beige but they're kinda mad expensive and that design out of stock!

Gloss red or gloss black brick style tiles,it will make the kitchen and work tops pop out.

I went for a type of light brown/beige 2 x 2 inch wall tile,to make my cream kitchen and wallnut work tops stand out a bit.The floor is 600 x 600 x 25mm polished marble with 200mm wide brown marble border sitting about 2 feet off the kick boards of the kitchen units.

    Looks very nice.

For an extra little touch, you could change the socket plates to polished chrome effect and make them stand aout a bit more.It would bring into play your sink, kitchen tap and also the silver facia of the dishwasher too.

I changed mine from standard white plastic to polished chrome, and it turned out well.

    Classy touch.:)

    Thanks Paddy.

I plan to change the sockets and switches to either polished or brushed, probably brushed. Any ideas on best place for best price? I've seen some in B&Q - they're only ok I think and the switch for the cooker cost 64 euros or something like that. Another option is the 'Le Clic' range I think it's called but I've only seen them in 1 shop and they only stocked the single light switches:rolleyes:

I'll need 4 double sockets, a double light switch and a cooker switch.

DO NOT buy from BnQ,Woodies or Homebase.

    RIPP OFF MERCHANTS.

Go to any electrical wholesalers or else ring up CED in Ballycoolin Ind Estate, and they will supply you with whatever you need or want.

I had CED flat polished chrome fitted in the house.Good value and good make too.:)

I went around loads of tile shops and collected so many samples, when having my kitchen and floors fitted,it was a mental drain on me.

And then my girlfriend sorted it all out in a matter of an hour one day for me.She lined up all the tile samples (about 30,and Im not kidding) and then picked out 1 within 5 minutes of viewing them all against the kitchen units and worktops.

Shes good at colour co-ordination,thank god..:)

Oh,and I didnt get red or black tiles fitted myself, but I just know that gloss red or black will work for the kitchen above.

Ok thanks Paddy I'll give them a call. I was just looking up a couple of UK websites that have them much cheaper too but I appreciate the recommendation of the quality of their fittings.

Your kitchen looks great. I had to laugh when I saw it though cos the tiles I was undecided about were very similar to the ones you have. When you first suggested black or red I thought 'well I don't want black and I don't really want red'. But then I went scouting again and was really drawn to the red ones, brought one home as a sample and just thought it added a bit of zing to the whole thing. And I'm really pleased with them. Btw just noticed I attached the pics just after the tiling was finished and before I had polished off the excess grout! Believe me it looks even better now.

Will i encounter problems putting new metal fronts on sockets and switches considering that the tiling/grouting is finished or should they be 'standard'? (shudder)

Sockets will be standard size and same screw fitment,as per your existing sockets.:)

You physically disconnet the white plastic sockets and then replace with the new steel or chrome sockets and plates.

ALLWAYS turn off the power at the fuseboard before you go to dissconnect anything..;)

    Thanks.

It took a bit of hard bartering and haggling with both the kitchen and marble floor tilles, but I got a good deal (in the end).

The way I look at it is this......if you dont ask, then you wont know and wont get.
