What's your take on app-based advertising? [Survey]

    Hi all,

For my Masters thesis, I’m researching peoples’ attitudes to advertisements delivered though smartphone apps: both display ads in the interface of the app and entire apps used as promotional tools (such as the Budweiser Ice Cold Index app).

If you own a smartphone and have 3 minutes to spare, I’d hugely appreciate it if you could fill out the survey linked below.

There are no open-ended questions – just tick the boxes and you’ll be done!

If you know any other smartphone owners, it would also be great if you could forward this mail or link to them.

Thanks in advance... hope it's a subject that interests you!

Any paticular reason that its restricted to smartphones, and doesn't include non-phone "smart devices", iPod/iPad/Android Pad etc

    Or is that an error

It's basically because a lot of the theory in my research is based off previous findings in mobile advertising. Most of these academic studies looked at SMS and MMS advertising, while current 'mobile advertising', which I define as any advertisement consumed through a mobile phone (whether SMS, bluetooth, app, or web banner) is obviously much broader.

I'm sticking to literal phones as much to keep the study within manageable bounds as anything else. It's an issue I've highlighted as worthy of further research though... the boundaries between devices and media are constantly eroding!

    I did it OP.

One thing however, when you select NO to a question you should not have to answer the other questions related to the same topic.

    For example:

If the person answers NO to Q15 they still have to answer Q16 which makes no sense. Surely this will make your results for Q16 inaccurate?

You are absolutely correct and yet I only noticed that after I launched. Sigh. :D

Gonna have to go in and clean up the data afterwards before I do any analysis.
