TCD wifi & itouches/iphones

I know there are been threads on this before but I was wondering if anyone had any new ideas/suggestions/ methods for connecting an itouch to the college wifi... I've had friends manage to connect in previous years but they forgot how (useless folks)

So far I have everything done as far as the 'scan your computer' step in which is doesn't recognise the OS... anyone know how to get around this step?

I hear a rumour that this year they were going to have a method of letting people connect their itouches/iphones... is this true? It would be so convient but knowing TCD it'll take another decade before it happens...

    Thanks for your help :)

The unofficial way I suppose would be to change the MAC address on a laptop to that of your mobile device and then run all the checks on that laptop.

Bingo! Look up "MAC spoofing", spoof your phone's MAC on your laptop and away you go :) *SNIP*

Do you know how to do that? Is it complicated? Must you do it on an apple computer?

    Just reboot your laptop

    Seriously, google it.

    http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/security/how-to-spoof-a-mac-address/395
    http://www.klcconsulting.net/Change_MAC_w2k.htm

results 2, 3, 4 respectively in google for "mac spoofing"
number one was a wikipedia article.

Thanks for your help - but one was an article about spoofing not how to do it, one was a dodgy looking computer program, and one was for mac os when I have a windows 7 laptop...

I'll figure it out though. So should I change the MAC address on my laptop not my itouch right?

TO answer your question first of all-yes. you change the amc address of your laptop to your handheld, do all the checks on your laptop, then restart your laptop.

    on the article about spoofing-
For more general MAC address spoofing, your MAC address is trivially reset with tools available in default installs of most operating systems. Here are some examples:
    • Linux: ifconfig eth0 hw ether 03:a0:04:d3:00:11
    • FreeBSD: ifconfig bge0 link 03:a0:04:d3:00:11
    • MS Windows: On Microsoft Windows systems, the MAC address is stored in a registry key. The location of that key varies from one MS Windows version to the next, but find that and you can just edit it yourself. There are, of course, numerous free utilities you can download to make this change for you as well (such as Macshift for MS Windows XP).

Name of a program in there, if you don't want to go hunting in the registry for it..
I apologise for the mac link, I didn't know you had windows, and
I don't see any problems with the last one, it looks fine to me. Just not a very nice lookign website...

    There's also
http://www.irongeek.com/i.php?page=security/changemac which tells you how to do it.
if you tack windows 7 onto the end of Mac address spoofing you get...
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/697bf48c-a226-4315-8875-2bbeddf16db2/
    http://www.technitium.com/tmac/index.html

I really do think the "google it" answer was justified this time..
For the record, there's a thread about this on page 4 too...

    TL;DR
Use technitium mac changer to do it on windows, use command line on mac/Linux
