I'd suggest as neutral and uncomplicated a background as is possible. A front, rear and shot of both sides of car, and a few interior snaps at the least, more if possible but I do appreciate there is a limit in the number of photos many websites will allow you to display

I like it when people put in close up photos of major dents/ marks/ scratches on the car...it at least gives the impression they are being straight and honest about the car as possible. Also, its often blatantly obvious that the seller has washed the car, water running off and a hose pipe lying nearby...this seems almost like the seller is trying too hard and even lazy to another extent.

Try for a bright sunny spell to take the snaps but I appreciate this is is not always possible when your at the mercy of out murky Irish weather.

The pictures looking down each side of the car are a good way of showing straight panels. also make sure you take them in bright daylight. nothing worse than shìte pictures taken at night, even at dusk a camera will produce alot of "noise" unless you have a decent camera set up correctly. also avoid using the flash as it bounces off of shiny panels. i would include the number plate as it drives me mad when people cover them up as it gives the impression your covering up a lot more.

actually, i'd avoid taking photos with harsh / direct sunlight, overcast sky would be better, you won't get a massive glare off the car then

any examples of what you're talking about might help

There's a lot more work gone into that photo than you might think from looking at it, something you wouldn't be able to do with a point&shoot

I do photography on the side, and I have found myself doing a good few car shoots recently, people seem to beleive that some professional pictures of their car will help them sell it, I do tend to agree as when I was buying my last car I wasn't really bothered with ads that had crap images of the car or only about 1/4 of the car photographed.

The last 3 cars I sold all sold very quickly, quicker than I expected, now you can't solely put that down to the images but in one instance it was simply the only thing standing out from the the same BMW on the same site, which sold 2 weeks after mine.

Generally speaking, I have found that images of your everyday vehicle that have been over processed or taken in a full set up havn't sold well as it isn't realistic and people can;t picture themselves in that vehicle, however this is the best way of selling vintage or very expensive vehicles. For your everyday car you need well taken shots, showing as much of the vehicle in great detail and quality as possible. A nice background is obviously a help but I find a subtle blur on the background helps the car stand out, without making it unrealistic.

So to be honest OP you need someone with a DSLR, a professional will charge you an arm or a leg but if you knew anyone doing it on the side they could sort you out I am sure, and in my experience I find it does make all the difference.

Don't park it on the grass for one, it looks like you're trying to keep oil leaks off your drive/street.

Most of all I'm always very suspicious of sellers that are not prepared to show any bits of their home background and pretend the car spends its time visiting stately homes and scenic parks. It's a private car sale, not a motorsport calendar.

Apart from the usual front rear and 2 side shots, Always show photos of the interior (one for front and one for back, and always clearly show the condition of the drivers seat and driver footwell), engine bay, boot, and documents / manuals, spare keys, and the typical tyre tread left. Also a closer photo of any described defect also shows you are honest.

I wouldn't agree with these edited or "professional" pictures for selling cars. The buyer wants to make as much out of the car as possible from any angle for any possible dents/scratches or irregularities. A normal high resolution picture would be the most preferred for these.

Otherwise the buyer is wasting the sellers time, and vice versa.

Sold my Santa Fe in 3 hours last weekend. It had no tax no nct and needed some work. I got it washed and cleaned the inside really well. Uploaded 8 pics on donedeal. The guy came to look at it and said it looked really well in the pics online. Got the asking price too.
