Gmail issue on Ipad 2

    Mrs Scout has an Ipad 2 and for some reason she keeps getting an error when trying to access her Gmail over the last month.

    The message is "username or password incorrect! yet it is correctly entered and saved.

    If she goes into Safari and access Gmail that way there is no issue!

    I have checked my settings on Iphone 4 and everything is set up exactly the same as Ipad.

    I have shut it down and rebooted it and no change.

    I deleted the account and re-entered all the settings again but keep getting the same error message.

    Anyone else have this issue?

    Have you entered the full email address as the username?

    Is 2-step verification turned on in Gmail? If so, you may need to authorise the device.

    Also make sure that IMAP is turned on in the Gmail account settings.

    Went through the settings and everything is set up correctly = full username, proper password.

    What is strange is that it was working perfectly up to a month ago and using the same settings via Safari allows her into the gmail site without a problem!

    Strange one!

    Update on this - everything started working again on Tuesday but it is once again giving the same message - username and/or password incorrect!

    Also checked on other networks and same issue!

    Has to be a software glitch I think???

    When setting up the account, did you select the Gmail wizard? If so, try setting it up as an Exchange Account instead:

    Just turn off calendars and contacts if you don't want them.
