NFL Tipster Competition 2011

The third year of the boards.ie NFL Tipster Competition begins Thursday 9th September when the Saints visit the Superbowl Champion Packers.

For New Players;
Copied & pasted this from last years comp. (think the link still works).

I have set up a boards.ie league on CBS Sportsline.
The way it works is that you choose who you think will win each game every week scoring a point for each correct pick. Rather than getting involved in point spreads and/or confidence points I've kept it to the basic win/lose selection.
The only extra is that you need to pick the total points of the MNF game as a weekly tie-break decider.

The deadline for submitting picks is 1 hour before the start of the day's first game.
I don't think there is a limit to the amount of people who can enter the league, so the more the merrier as they say.

You will need a CBS Sportsline a/c to join. I'm sure alot of you will have one already from fantasy leagues there & also on NFL.com (I'm pretty sure the same a/c works on both sites).

For those of you who need reminders each week to submit picks there is no actual facility specifically for this but you could avail of the following;

There does appear to be a facility for email reminders this year under the Alerts then Options tabs.

And Icepickle tends to check the list and send reminders close to gameday to the stragglers

There's an extra option in the scoring setups this year to account for players forgetting to make picks.

The options I can set are;
1. Award zero points i.e you miss a week then tough luck.
2. Award the lowest correct picks score for that week.
3. Award the lowest correct picks score for that week minus 1.

I will stick a poll up on the league site for entrants to decide.

A late push has us up to 45 entrants. 33 have made their full picks for week 1 with the other 12 having made none. I have sent a reminder to them & the game system also sent one so I can do no more.

Quick question, I can't remember
Do all the picks lock after the first game or can you edit them later

For example can you edit your Monday Night Football pick on Monday morning?
Or is it locked once the first game starts?

On the page where you make your picks if you look at the line above your name it says;
Games will lock one hour prior to the start of the first game each day. Please note, Monday nights game will lock with Sunday's games.

So if there is a Thursday or Saturday game you can still make/alter your picks for Sun/Mon games right up to 1 hour before the first Sunday kickoff when everything else including Monday games locks.
I thought last year you could still alter Monday picks after the Sunday games but maybe I'm mistaken.

47 signed up. 41 have made picks. If any of the 6 still outstanding don't pick either this week or next I'll delete them from the system.

Still time if anyone wants to join up. You have until 5 pm BST to make the remaining week 1 picks.

Sorry to hear that. I wouldn't completely write it off though. We had a few week 2 entrants last year who did very well in their chase of the rest of us. Yes you are very much up against it if it's purely the competition win that makes it interesting for you but why not make your picks from now & make it a challenge to see how close you can go. You know what you would have scored for week 1 & can try to be less than that score behind the winner at the end of the season.

Week 8 deadline is 4pm (UK & Ireland) this evening for the few still to make their picks. The clocks don't go back in the USA until next week so early kickoffs are 5pm instead of the usual 6pm for most of us.

Thursday Games
Just a reminder that this week (Week 10) sees the start of Thursday night games from now until week 16. Make sure to get your picks for those games in at least an hour before kickoff. The deadline for Sunday games is still 5pm.
